Just to confirm here this problem was resolved, related to WMI issues.

 Uhhh, Damian, does this mean I need to research WMI problems and find a fix myself or will this bit of info dribble down to Dave and the ticket he's working on for me?

Look for WMI Diagnostic Utility on the MS site. Get the one for your OS. Run it and fix the problems it says you have. Need to be familiar with using the command prompt. That's what fixed it for me.
