The Windows 8.1 system file, uiautomationcore.dll, was the faulting module.  The uiautomationcore.dll is part of the Microsoft.net framework.  As indicated in the CTD Guide, you need versions 1.1 thru the latest to run FSX and FSX addons.  The following was taken from the AVSIM CTD Guide:

Make sure required Microsoft.net Framework Packages are installed and up-to-date - The appropriate Microsoft.net Framework packages are normally installed when you first install FSX/Acceleration/P3D and commercial add-on programs if the appropriate package is not found.  You will need versions 1.1 through the latest. You can see what versions are installed by going to your Windows Explorer and look for Windows/Microsoft.net/Framework/(then the versions installed). Once the packages are installed, Windows Update will periodically update the packages.  You can verify whether your versions are properly installed and up-to-date by using the .Net Framework Setup Verification Tool User's Guide.  Microsoft.net packages are used by developers to make sure the program runs in the way they intended, including memory management. The packages are, for the most part, not backward compatible.

If you continue to receive crashes, you need to download the AppCrashView utility which provides more information than in the Event Viewer and Microsoft Crash Reports.  I would be interested to know if you have the Vista or XP version of the Uiautomationcore.dll in your main fsx directory.  If so, you should remove it as it could be doing more harm than good to 8.1 users.  Many individuals who have 8.1 installed have solved their crashes by removing the uiautomationcore.dll from their main fsx directory.

I knew that.  It's suppose to be there.  Some put the Vista version in their main FSX folder too.

You're not the only one having problems running fsx in Windows 8.1.  You'll just have to conduct an investigation and try to figure out what is causing your crashes.  There is no known fix.  TakeOwnership is probably the best possible solution but turning down settings, getting rid of any tweaks, and deleting your fsx.cfg and restarting fsx are probably your best bets.

Best regards,

In addition, you might want to take a look at the subject of your topic.  What airports are you trying to switch to or does it matter?  All of them?  If you are trying to switch between let's say two commercial addons like London and Paris, then it is most likely a memory issue.  The various Microsoft.net's that developers use to run FSX and FSX addons were installed so that the app or addon would run as the developer intended, including memory management for the app.  So I think you need to focus on memory issues (i.e., settings too high, bad overclock, computer overheating.  If it was between default airports, then you might have an installation problem.
