December 31, 201312 yr Sounds like you may have many of the same questions I had. Maybe this thread will be helpful. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/428081-informed-graphics-card-decision/ Good Luck with whatever you decide!!! December 31, 201312 yr Author Hey Jesse already read your post what card did you decide on Thanks JHo Jaime Horton
December 31, 201312 yr I decided on the EVGA GTX 770 with ACX cooler and 4GB memory for $430.00 from TigerD. Spec's:Video Memory 4GBStream Processors 1536Core Clock 1111 MhzMemory Clock 7010 MhzMemory Bandwidth 224.32 GB/sec The installation went smoothly, if not entirely flawlessly. Initially the card was apparently unrecognized and I was unable to get a Windows boot. Eventually it dawned on me that my BIOS was several generations out of date. After the BIOS updates were applied and BIOS settings restored, the card installation went completely as expected. I was unable to stop the Windows auto installer so new Nvidia drivers had to be installed (probably a good idea, anyway). Once I had restored my Nvidia Control panel and Nvidia Inspector settings, cleared the FSX shader cache and deleted the Display.Device entries to the FSX.cfg it was time to fly. I am very pleased with the results in FSX. As Howard said in the other thread; “I'm still with FSX but I could see a noticeable difference in certain scenarios having upgraded from a 580. So in P3Dv2 I suspect the difference will be even more noticable.”My GTX 580 served me well. It performed reliably and gave many hours of excellent flying experiences. The GTX 770 has definitely been an improvement and with BP=0 and Vsync the performance is smooth and frame rates have been staying in the upper 20’s to 30 (locked) even in heavy weather conditions (my favorite kind of flying). Texture loading during view changes seems almost immediate without lags and I’m not experiencing any texture loading flashes or autogen spikes in spite of having the autogen sliders maxed. If you get the time to read through that entire thread you will see there doesn't seem to be any consensus on this as many have opted for the 770 and many others for the 780. Everyone has their own reasons and everyone seems to be quite pleased with their own results. Good luck with your choice! Jesse, I too switched out my old and faithful GTX-580Ti several weeks ago for the identical card you purchased. The only difference being I bought mine from Amazon.com because it was on sale the day I decided to buy for $399. Usually I buy from TigerD simply because if I have a problem, their Orland Park retail store is only a half-hour drive away for a quick exchange, trade in, or refund process. Your reported experience thus far has very closely paralleled my own results here, save that I had no issues whatever with getting it installed and running. My sole remaining bottleneck is my "antique" i7 2600 (not a 'k') running at the stock 3.4GHz speed. I did have to replace the existing 500watt PSU with a new 850watt PSU. My next purchase sometime next year will be a new motherboard and next gen i7 "something" along with faster memory. Fr. January 1, 201412 yr Moderator Bill Jesse what addons do you run ? do you fly the PMDG birds? Thanks for the input JHo In P3Dv2, no add-ons whatsoever. I need to keep my installation "virgin" as much as possible because I use it solely for development work and do not want or need anything to affect my performance profiling of works in progress...
