January 2, 200521 yr I now have a pretty much up-to-date system and have following some information I gleaned from somewhere found that using Task Manager to set FS9's Priority to "Realtime" and Affinity to ONLY ONE of the two processors I see gives me maybe 10FPS.I understand this to mean that I'm giving FS9 absolutely priority over all other tasks, but only for one processor, so that everything else can continue to work by cramming onto the other.NB I UNDERSTAND THIS DOESN'T WORK FOR OLDER PROCESSORS AND NON XP OPERATING SYSTEMS AND CAN CAUSE FS9 TO CRASH IF YOU TRY TO SET PRIORITY TO REALTIME ON THOSE. DON'T BLAME ME IF THINGS GO WRONG!What I can't do is make this change permanent. Each time I load FS9 it has reverted to normal settings.Anyone know how to make such a change permanent? I've had a look at Regedit, but can't see how to do it and I'm certainly not fooling about in there without some guidance!I do have anti-spyware and if someone is going to say that the changes I make in Task Manager ought to be permanent, is there a possibility that it is blocking the change?
January 2, 200521 yr I don't personally advocate meddling with process priorities...usually does more harm than good by crowding out essential housekeeping processes. Setting CPU affinity can help tremendously, though.But...if you must...Try this freeware process control utility:http://www.beyondlogic.org/solutions/proce...processutil.htmYou can use FSAutoStart to run a batch file containing a couple invocations of this utility after FS9 starts:process -p fs9.exe realtimeprocess -a fs9.exe 01RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, DC Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case
January 2, 200521 yr Obviously I'm only trying to prioritise FS9 when I run it - after all, what else do I need this computer for? !! I'm already using Autostart to temporarily shut down all but essential processes anyway, even to the extent of pulling the plug out of the wall and disabling anti-virus etc - so giving FS9 carte blanche is really not so much bigger a step, as long as it isn't doing permanent harm.I have to say it SEEMS I get substantially better performance that way - did try to search but couldn't find relevant threads. The implication of what you are saying is that there is no way of permanently upping the priority of FS9, but I could use Autostart to run a batch file (is that the complete text BTW?) which would reverse on a reboot.
January 3, 200521 yr There is no way of permanently upping the priority of any process. If you use FSAS to run a batch file to change the priority (note that FSAS also allows you to set the priority... so the batch file may not be needed at all), I'm not sure what you would want to reverse of reboot?
January 3, 200521 yr Ah the answer I was looking for!I hadn't noticed until recently that FS slipped back to the default settings after use and wasn't sure if I could make the change permanent.Jan said he was "wary" of changing priorities. The point I was trying to make was that I'm either flying or doing something else on the computer, but not both at the same time, and since I was only planning to change the priority for FS and not for anything else, after a reboot when FS wasn't running, everything would be back to normal anyway.I use your absolutely excellent Autostart for FS - everyone should do the same - but I hadn't noticed that I could set priorities from in there. I will look more closely!
January 3, 200521 yr I had a look, quite right, you can set priority but not affinity.Any thoughts on the necessity/benefits of setting affinity?
January 3, 200521 yr Author I changed the affinity to "CPU 0" only, and it made no difference whatsoever :-lol. You can change the affinity by right clicking the process in the Task Manager ....(My PC: P4 3.0, FSB800) Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
