January 3, 201412 yr When departing from KRNO...Reno, NV I'm always confused by the SID. The initial part of the SID has an aircraft flying over the FMG VOR. The FMG VOR is almost at a 90 degree angle East of runways 16R or 16L. It seems impractical to fly a heading departure of around 160 degrees then to make a turn of 120 degrees or so to FMG. I guess my question is: in the real world would aircraft departing from KRNO be expected to pass over the FMG VOR?
January 5, 201412 yr Yes, you fly south for 3 miles off the I-RNO then turn to FMG, hold at FMG if necessary to reach the MEA. This assumes a RWY 16 departure.
January 6, 201412 yr Or if flying online (or real world), and VMC, tell the controller you can maintain clearance from terrain and obstacles and they should let you skip FMG onto your next waypoint. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
