How to use DX10 with Nvidia GT555m in FSX

Featured Replies

Hi to all,

I have some doubts about DX10

First , here are my specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate X64

Notebook Lg A530

Intel Core I7-2670QM - 8 Gb ram

Nvidia GT555m with 2GB dedicated - (latest driver installed 9.18.13.3221)

Intel® HD Graphics

Microsoft Flight Simulator X with sp1,sp2 and aceleration.

My question is: Why when I choose to use DX10 in fsx, my video card is changed to the Intel® HD Graphics?
Could not I use my Nvidia GT555M with DX10?
I've tried to enable the DX10 by FSX and also by DX10SceneryFixer 3.3 but it still fails. The fsx always puts the Intel
® HD Graphics as my video card.

I also tried using the Nvidia Inspector, but also without success.

Have researched a lot on the web but could not solve the problem.

Does someone could help me?

Many thanks for your attention.

Check the NVidia Control Panel under 3D Settings and see if you have an option to select which graphics adapter to use.  If not you will have to go into your BIOS and disable integrated graphics or you might be able to disable it in the Device Manager.  To get to the Device Manager, click on the Start button, and then in the Search box type Device and then look up in the menu and click on Device Manager.  Look under Display Adapters.  Once it is disabled and you just have the internal graphics card working, then I would rename your fsx.cfg, restart FSX and let the config rebuild so that it can "see" what display adapters you have installed.

Best regards,

Thanks for your attention, but if I disable my  Intel® HD Graphics, my Nvidia GT555M stop works. Intel® HD Graphics is necessary for the operation of Nvidia.

Okay, from my research on the Internet you don't disable it as it is suppose to know exactly whether to use the video card or the Intel HD Graphics.  But sometimes you have to trick or tell your video card that you want to use the video card for FSX instead of the integrated Intel HD Graphics.  You supposedly do this by opening up the NVidia display driver control panel (right click your desktop and select Nvidia Control Panel).  Once the control panel is open, click on 'Manage 3D Settings' then click on the Program Settings tab.  Then go to Select a program to customize and select FSX.exe.  You can then set the settings you want for FSX.  This should tell FSX that the NVidia video card is going to handle the display settings for this program.

Best regards,

Thanks again

I already did it. In my Nvidia control panel, the FSX as set to use the Nvidia video card as default, but when I launch FSX with DX10 the video card showed is the Intel. The FSX only show Nvidia when I run FSX in DX9 mode.

Thanks

can you post the DISPLAY.Device entries in your FSX.cfg

Also what does DXDiag report?

Hi

Thanks for your attention. Here are my fsx.cfg DISPLAY settings:

[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M   .0]

Anisotropic=1

AntiAlias=1

Mode=1920x1080x16

[DISPLAY.Device.Intel® HD Graphics Family.0.1]

Anisotropic=1

AntiAlias=1

Mode=1920x1080x32

And here are my DxDiag report and some screenshots of FSX with DX9 and FSX with DX10:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1rbz7xetz0t4mr7/oWPCzh33CW

Note that in DX9 mode the FSX show the Nvidia, and in the DX10, FSX show intel.

I would try taking a copy of fsx.cfg then from the original

remove the Intel entry

Then copy the whole NVIDia DX9 entry

[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M .0]

Anisotropic=1

AntiAlias=1

Mode=1920x1080x16

and place an extra .0 on the end so

it becomes

[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M .0.0]

and see what happens

Note that you have only x16 bit color selected at the moment - but see if it works before changing that.

Hi. Sorry for the later response. I did all the changes, but the FSX stiil only show the Intel Graphics when I choose the DX10 mode. I also try to change the mode Mode=1920x1080x16 to Mode=1920x1080x32 but without success. The FSX only show the Nvidia in DX9 mode.

Thanks

Have a read of this thread:

Post#2 suggests that the 555m card might be running despite what FSX DX10 says.
