A320 LSZH to EDDL with cloud shadows!

Recommended Posts

Guest Mik75

Hi there!
Because of a thread I found here on AVSIM about cloud shadows in X-Plane 10, in which a fellow simmer (AUA425) wrote that they can easily be brought back to XPX with a plugin called dataref editor (by changing a ceratin value in game on the fly), I had to give that a try immediately.
I loved cloud shadows in XP9, and ever since, I knew that -at least for me- they were absolutely important to make the scenery look really realistic and deep.
Have a look at these shots I´ve taken on a flight in the QPAC A320 from Zürich to Düsseldorf. I hope you like them, I nearly freaked out ;-):

Really cool. Why are they disabled in the first place? FPS hit? Glitches or visual artifacts?

They are not disabled, just really toned down. Increasing the value makes them visible again. I haven't noticed any glitches and fps problems so far. Haven't done so much testing yet. But it looks simply fantastic!

Really strange why Laminar toned down the cloud shadows to the point where they are barely noticeable. The screenshots posted here look amazing and very realistic. A strange decision by Laminar to say the least. I hope they make a full return like in these screenshots for 10.30!

It absolutely adds so much realism to the whole look of the sim! I tried different values, but the sweet spot seems to be 0.870000 for, that had been used for this pics also.

Nice shots! I experimented with cloud shadows a while back and was surprised how much they added to the scenic realism of X-Plane. As others have stated, it'd be nice to see them return!

Thank you! I think cloud shadows are really important for the realistic look as they add a lot of depth!

By the way, why are half of the pics gone on my last couple of topics in the screenshot forum?

Thanks, it is also a pure joy to fly over the scenery, enhanced with these shadows!
