Help needed with terrain/ mesh issue

Featured Replies

Hey fellas, unsure what's wrong here. At first glance it appears to be a mesh issue, but even with the 'airports of Norway mesh' uninstalled, there still seems to be these strange anomolies, although not quite as prominent. They are everywhere, all over the place. This was after departure from ENNK. Funny thing is, I did a flight a few weeks ago and was unaware of these oddities. Is anyone else experiencing this in this area of Norway? Cheers...

Yes, I've run into it while flying the north coast line of Norway especially as I approach the border with Finland. And in other areas of the world as well. I experience it with both FSGlobal and FSGenesis meshes for that area. Probably something to do with the available elevation info for the area. I'm hoping when Holger tackles all of Norway for Orbx these volcanic ponds will get addressed as it's one of my favorite regions to fly.

You can mitigate it sometimes by lowering the mesh resolution in the graphics tab but then you lose all that extra detail you paid for.

Hi Frank, OK thanks. More or less what I thought. At least I know it isn't just me! Cheers...

Hydro polygons have a fixed altitude, so when you add accurate mesh you can get lakes in deep pits or set atop plateaus, just like with airports. I think the only way to correct it is to exclude the existing hydro polygons and redraw them with the correct elevations using a program like SBuilderX. That's quite a chore if there are many such lakes.

Hmm, it all seems rather absurd. The issue doesn't really expose itself when using default terrain but as soon as a third party mesh of any reasonable resolution is used they become an eyesore!

I makes me appreciate what goes into an FTX region. They make 10m mesh for an area, then they have to go fix all the terrain vectors including correcting altitudes for all the hydro polys, then fix all the airport elevations and rebuild the airports, replace the landclass, textures, autogen, bridges, build and place custom models, etc. It's a lot of work.  :(
