February 9, 201412 yr Hello everyone! I've been a fan of MS Flight Simulator for many years and just heard of XPlane very recently. I've tried the demo and I like it, and I may be ready to buy the full version (home use). I wanted to know how much hard drive space the simulator takes up. I have a Solid State Drive with only about 86 GBs free, and I read somewhere that the game takes up 80 GBs?! That's cutting it real close, so I'm hesitant to pick it up unless it doesn't really take up that much space. Any info or suggestions would be great. Thanks!
February 9, 201412 yr A full install of X-Plane 10 Global will clock in at about 55-60 GBs, if I remember rightly. That's without any add-on scenery, planes, and the like. My install (with the HD Meshes v2, a few dozen add-on aircraft, a bunch of liveries, and 200+ scenery packs) is currently 141 GB. Hope this helps! February 9, 201412 yr Author Thanks, that helps and is do-able for me. I may proceed with ordering it soon then. How many DVDs does the full install take? And typically how large are files related to add-on aircraft? I guess I'll need to upgrade my SSD at some point later on to take full advantage of the extras...
February 9, 201412 yr My install is currently 138GB with HD meshes. As Roy Scheider said in Jaws, if you want to enjoy XP10 at its best "We're gonna need a bigger boat". Having said that you can save a lot of space by choosing to install only certain areas. I should do that really as I haven't visited S America, Russia etc. at all... 8DVDs, Carenado sizes 300 - 400MB, complex aircraft like the Saab 340A 1.5GB depending on liveries you install. i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea
