ITrafficInfo variables in FSX Multiplayer

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone has experience using ITrafficInfo variables in Multiplayer mode?  The ESP SDK clearly suggests that ITrafficInfo variables work in multiplayer, and I know about its use in an ATC Controller setting from the stock FSX radar gauge, but I wonder if each player, using ITrafficInfo variables in a gauge in their own aircraft, can see the all the other players' aircraft?

I've written an XML TCAS gauge that works well with AI aircraft, but will it work in multiplayer mode, with each player having this gauge in their panel?  Just curious if anyone has an idea.

Thanks,

Bob

Can you be more specific on what you are trying to do?

I have modified my FSX  map, which is essentially a version of the FSX ATC radar gauge, to  show up to 16 multiplayer aircraft along with their player ID, IAS, ALT and aircraft type plus the other basic info..

I also have a highly modified radar gauge that will show me essential information about any multiplayer aircraft I have 'highlighted'. out to a range in excess of 2000 miles. I also have a filter to select 'on the ground', 'in the air', or All.

I can read his heading, track, ground speed, altitude, range from me and the relative bearing to that aircraft. The track and ground speed are particularly important when trying to ease into a formation and maintain position while on autopilot. Those same variables are presented for my aircraft so it is just a matter of making both sets of numbers match. When you have different wind velocities or directions the only variables that 'count' are the track and ground speed.

The other aircraft do not need to have any special gauges for me to read their data.

All those FS9GPS variables can be utilized in multiplayer to the best of my knowledge.

Hi Paul,

The question is, can each player in a multiplayer session have their own radar / TCAS gauge that accesses ITraffic info variables, and each player see all the other players?

I know how ITrafficInfo variables and the FSX ATC Radar gauge work but I have always used it with AI traffic and never yet run a multiplayer session where each aircraft has its own TCAS or radar.  Just wondering if there are conflicts with L:Vars, ITrafficInfo variables and such things in multiplayer mode that I need to be aware of.

I probably should just install a new copy of FSX on a separate pc and set up my own multiplayer to find out, just I haven't done that yet.

Any gauge in an aircraft using L:Vars will work independantly in Multiplayer from any other

aircraft with that same gauge. The "L" in L:Var stands for "local". The variable is not

seen 'outside' the aircraft system, to the best of my knowledge.

I have created a number of gauges for use by members of the 91st Bombardment Group on

our Multiplayer missions and there have been no issues when using then either in free flight

or in the MP environment.

The FSX SDK defines which variuables are 'shared' in Multiplayer. None of them are "L:var"s.
