Need help with 2500K OC.

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I have my CPU set up to run at 4.3 oc and according to all the monitors i see it is doing just that. But it only seems to switch from the stock speed of 3.3 when i place it under a load. I feel that this is causing me a problem that i could fix if it is posable to have it stay on OC. all the time.

I only us this computer for Flitsim. I thought i had read some place where that is posable but i cant find it now. I have the TPU switch on the MOB turned on so the OC.is automatic and the EPU switch is off.

Any info will greatly appreciated.

Please see my PC spec for that info.

Thanks, Bob

I can't remember what this is called.... it could be one of the C states enabled, causing it to go back to stock at idle.  Maybe C1E - check if there's an enable/disable option in BIOS.

Hopefully someone else will chime in.

That is by design. What problem do you feel that this behavior is causing?

Cheers!

Thanks Ryan for you input. I will look through the user guide and see what is listed like that and give it a try.

Luke you may be right and i my not be able to have it stay in OC. all the time. The reason you asked why i wanted to do that is because i have 3-25 inch monitors using TH2GO for the out side view and i open Fltsim in the center monitor and after i setup the Flt i switch to max windowed view or full screen view and all this time iam watching the cpu on CPUID. and it is at 4.3 GHZ. as soon as i click to change views i see the cpu switch back to stock speed for about 2 or 3 sec. and the picture tries to open on all three screens but it just flashes on and off and the only way i can get it to stop is use task manager to get out of Flt sim and try allover again. Now for some reason after i try this a couple time it will kick in and work ok for a couple times.

So my thinking was all this switching of the cpu may have something to do with it and if i could just get it to stay on that would be one thing i could eliminate.

Iam using the EZ mode Turbo switch on the mob to oc. and maybe if i did it manualy with the AI Suite II it would stay on ?

I may be going in the wrong direction i dont know, i dont know much about software.

Hi Ryan, I found the C1E it was set to auto so i changed it to disable and the cpu still switched up and down as i changed from just the center to all three screens in full screen mode. However all screens go dark for a sec or two and then it works.

It my have helped the problem ? We will see.

Thanks to all for the help.

Bob

What mobo and what BIOS are you running?

This is called turbo mode and is actually desired.

You are extending the lifespan of your processor and basically are asking us how to make it worse.

In turbo mode, your cpu will only go to 4.3 when there is a high demand on it.

when you are doing nothing on your computer, it goes back to 3.3 for less power consumption and lower temps, which is what you want.

I would leave it alone if I were you.

I am using Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3 and the bios 0301. If you click on My PC you will see all of my spec. I only use the computer for Fltsim so if it stays in OC. that is fine with me. No problem with heat.

As you see i was just trying to get it to stay in OC. to see if that was why i had a problem getting it to go from the center screen where Fltsim opens and i setup the program to open in all three screens. Some times it works and some times it does not.

It maybe the Matrox software or the GPU not sure, so i seen this going on and was just wanting to eliminate it.

Open to any suggestions. Thanks for you comments.

Look in control panel, under power options. Make sure you have it set to High Performance.  This keeps my 4770K running at max speed.

I think its unrelated.

But if you really want to test it, just disable your over clock?

I set it to Hi performance and it still will not stay in OC. all the time.

outofpaze, I also trIed what you said and turned off all OC. and what i seen was surprising to me. I should have noticed this before. The base clock is always 100 and the multiplyer would be 33 for stock 3.3 GHZ or 43 when it was in OC. mode. Well what i am seeing is the multiplyer is switching between 16 & 33 with the opening Fltsim start window in the center screen and it is about 8"x 10" in size. So that really means the cpu is only running at 16 GHZ until i put more of a load on it by Maxmizing that window. This what it has been doing all along. When i tried to open that window acrossed all three screens the multiplyer jumped to 16 for a couple sec. then went back to 33 or 43 depending on whether i was OCing. I see this on CPUID and Core temp. The good news is it is still switching the multiplyer but the window is opening on all three screens. It must be the way it is to work. But it would be nice to know if anyone else ever seen this..So i guess i can move on to my next problem. I can not switch when i want between windowed and full screen mode. Not sure which forum to use?   Thanks to all for you advice.  Bob

Yes my cpu does this... But im pretty sure it was C1E - I set it to disabled and it stays at my assigned multiplier. Other than check C3/C6 and like the others said above Turbo mode and high performance power plan in Windows.

I found the C1E Ryan but it did not stop mine from switching multiplyers. I see our systems are very close to each other but i am using 4-monitors. 3 for the outside veiw and one for the instruments. I noticed that after the wattage goes over about 20 watts it will switch to 33 or the OC.

I'm totally stumped. No idea why multi monitor would affect clock speed / throttling . I actually recently added a second monitor but I run FSX in windowed mode and still run it off one screen. I drag the internet browser to the second one.

Thanks to everyone that gave their input. The fix was what Fly MCA recommended. When i first set it to high performance it did not work because i must have did something wrong. Then i did it over and made sure it stayed on high performance and that did the trick. It stayed at the OC. setting no matter what the load was on the CPU.

So the change had to be made in Windows and not the Bios.

I hope this helps others in the future. It seems to have helped my problem with not being able to open all three screens because it has not acted up since.
