Steps to take before a flight.

Featured Replies

I keep forgetting to take certain steps prior to flight, so I want to create a step by step list for myself. Here is what I have so far. I welcome any help or criticism to complete the list, thanks.

Open PFPX (if no flight plan has been created)

Create Flight Plan

Import FP into PMDG Flightplans Folder

Import FP into FSX Folder (C:\Users\Your User Name\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files)?

Set Throttle Quadrant For PMDG Aircraft

Start TrackIR

Start FSX

Start OpusFSX

In FSX select "Free Flight"

Select PMDG Aircraft

Select Airport

Select Gate

Start Flight

Wait for PMDG Aircraft to Initialize

Set Parking Brake

Select OpusFSX View

Turn On TrackIR Head Set

Put on Head Set

Go through Check List

Program FMC

Contact ATC for IFR Clearance?

What is missing or not necessary?

Are you kidding me?

For my own checklist I would obviously kick out some steps (do not use trackIR, PFPX nor Opus...), but as I fly online I would add:

-Check weather, Significant WX charts, Wind charts, metars and tafs

-Check ATC presence

-Open appropriate charts - take a look to know what to expect.

-Generate OFP with simbrief

-Send a VATSIM flight plan (up to 2 hours before flight) - check that FP is in the system.

-Set correct date and time in FSX free flight menu

When FSX world is loaded:

-Start FSinn

-Connect to VATSIM

-Reset time setting because it tend to slip a few minutes behind while FSX world is loading. I tend to align FSX GMT time with my own clock to second. (OCD - cannot help myself)

-Select appropriate comm freq.

Thank you very much for your input. I would like to fly online, just don't the time to commit to , I think their participation requirements, or lengthy flights. Most my flights are KSNA - KPHX,  KSNA KLAS, KSNA - KLAX, KSNA - KSFO.
