February 16, 201412 yr As the topic suggests I would like to know if the demo for XP is available in both 32 and 64bit versions and if so how/where do I choose what version to download/install? I could only find one demo to download and it didn't say (or I missed it) if it was the 32 or 64 bit version, the only option I found was to choose platform in my case Windows.
February 16, 201412 yr the orginal demo is only for 64 bit windows but the released version of the demo is only in 32bit. however once u download the demo and install it and update it it will bring down the 64 bit version.
February 16, 201412 yr Author Thanks for the quick reply! So the demo available for download is the 32bit version but once I've downloaded it I'm able to update the installation to 64bit?
February 16, 201412 yr Thanks for the quick reply! So the demo available for download is the 32bit version but once I've downloaded it I'm able to update the installation to 64bit? yup. xplane 10 was originally 32 bit so it could only use about 4 gigs of ram . if you had more it wouldnt use that. however about year ago they made huge strides to make xplane 10 64 bit. it was a huge undertaking but there are huge benefits . be warned tho that xplane 10 still looks pretty bad by default. however there are so much free addons and payware addons that make xplane really pop. you can install most of the addons even with the demo however the demo only works in the Seattle area.
February 18, 201412 yr How long does the 64bit update take, from the latest 32bit demo?I had the old 32bit demo and tried an update, but it was downloading an enormous number of files and taking forever, so I cancelled it assuming I could just get a fresh 64-bit demo... Thanks Keith ...
February 18, 201412 yr I had the old 32bit demo and tried an update, but it was downloading an enormous number of files and taking forever, so I cancelled it assuming I could just get a fresh 64-bit demo... The 32- and 64-bit versions, while technically separate, are treated as one product by the updater. The update process will both bring the demonstration up to the latest version of the sim (which happens to include a healthy number of sizable texture additions), as well as apply the needed files to support the 64-bit version. Once updated, your demo directory will contain an executable for the 64-bit version, and a separate executable for the 32-bit version. If it's any consolation, the bulk of the updater's bandwidth use comes from adding new content rather than replacing or updating existing content, so even if Laminar Research released a singular "current" version of the demo which didn't need the updates, the size of that demo download will have grown just about as much as these updates push down to you. You should start the update process once more - hopefully it will allow you to pick up where you left off! -Greg
