Jaggies in the VC

Featured Replies

I've more or less pronounced jaggies and shimmer in the VC which in a extreme case show like this

Is it something I should expect (if not accept) or is there any remedy to it ? I must add that I'm a bit confused by the "falloff angle", "surface bias"   and the like  and my  trials and errors experiments have been so far fruitless.

Using version 2 of Steve' fixer with improved shadows checked.

Thanks.

Dominique

That's normal I am afraid.

There is nothing further that can be done. Try disabling the general shader and viewing the original shadows for comparison.

Darkening the shadows or ticking Reduce Falloff with Angle makes this more noticeable.

The problem is the resolution of the buffer used to calculate shadows which has to fit in the whole aircraft model. This together with the engine vibrations acting on the cockpit model limits the quality of the shadows.

Turning the engine off will reduce the jiggling effect but unless you want to try gliding is not really a solution.

Thank you Steve to have taken the time to answer. Much appreciated.

The surface bias is another compromise.

One slider applies to "small" aircraft and the other to "large" aircraft. If you make the bias lower the shadows become more accurate in their positioning when close to the object casting the shadow - look at the base of a window frame to see this.

If you make it too low you see a flickering on some surfaces (often like moving bands) these are because the surface "shadows" itself due to the approximations and rounding in the calculations.

Hi, I've tried to add VC shadows to PMDG MD11 and I'm quite happy with results.

I notice that there are still some jaggies quite evident, there is a parameter that can smooth out this effect?

I also have a doubt, the shadows in the VC are automatically added to the default aircraft only exact, while those of third parties (free or pay) you have to add them with the DX10ToolBox?

EDIT: just to clarify: for PMDG MD11F, for example, which .MDL you have to modify? there are Model.GEF and Model.GEFb for General Electrics (same for Pratt and Whitney). Have I to modify .MDL in .GEF or .GEFb folder?
