Replaced motherboard, now FS9 crashing

Featured Replies

Hi everybody

I've replaced the motherboard in my PC, all other components the same. Now, FS9 is freezing with the 'FS9 has stopped working' message, but no more info is forthcoming.

My FS9 is pretty pimped out, with all the usual heavy metal addons (PMDG, LDS, etc) and a couple hundred payware sceneries, plus a bunch of payware GA addons that I really don't want to reinstall if I can manage it.

But I'm guessing I'm going to have to reinstall the lot, aren't I? I had to ring MS to re-activate Win7, and I've got a horrible feeling some of the payware isn't happy now, either.  :Nail Biting:

Anyone got any advice before 'The Great Rebuild of 2014' commences?

Cheers, Chris D

I would reinstall. I really don't know what else you could do. My $.02

One thing that make re-installations less stressful for me is to install your add ons slowly.  If today you feel like flying LAX to Vegas, install those scenery and fly.  When you want to do a different route the next day, install those scenery then.

The first day is usually the most painful because that's when all the basics like REX, GEP, UT, Traffic, etc are installed.  After that, it's smooth sailing.

Good luck on the Great Rebuild!

If were me, I'd rebuild the system beginning with Win7. Replacing the motherboard is analogous to replacing the entire system unless, of course, the new motherboard is exactly the same make and model as the old. That's true even though some or all other components remain unchanged: HDDs; video cards; etc. Win7 is never going to operate at peak performance in that situation, reactivated or not. Hence, neither will anything running on Win7 including FS9.

All sorted, helped being from the same manufacturer (Gigabyte) and chipset (Z77), and having a home server (WHS2011). Seems a reinstall of DX did the trick.

Really wasn't looking forward to spending a couple of weeks reinstalling a 10 yo FS9 install.
