February 7, 200521 yr Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I decided to try out FS9 a few months ago. My main problem is finding ILS frequencies. I tried zooming in on the map as per instructions but all I saw were VOR and COM frequencies. I am not familiar with the Garmin GPS, does that have an ILS database?
February 7, 200521 yr <>Just zoom in far enough that you click near the center of the airport you will either get just airport data or a pull down with choices between airport, vor etc.<Yes. I think you would do well to spend some more time with manuals, FAQs etc.Regards,Jim
February 7, 200521 yr Why not use charts like real pilots? They're free http://www.aeroplanner.com/flightplanning/approachplates.cfm
February 7, 200521 yr >Why not use charts like real pilots?>They're free>http://www.aeroplanner.com/flightplanning/approachplates.cfmDo you know of any similar sites that have charts for Canada, the UK and Japan?
February 7, 200521 yr All current and free charts here https://164.214.2.62/products/digitalaero/index.cfm#term2 not every chart for every airport, but lots of them.
February 7, 200521 yr Just activate the display of ILS on the map and click on the ILS feathers. This procedure is better than the airport information popup because the airport information popup doesn't differentiate betwen which runways are equipped with glide slopes and DME.
February 7, 200521 yr For USA Airports, I use www.airnav.com ... For the ILS approach, it also gives you the magnetic heading for your course settings.Barry

February 7, 200521 yr One of the great advantages of having FSNavigator - all ILS and other navigation frequencies are displayed on the moving map. Also you can get lotsa information about airports, runways, approaches etc. etc. by just hovering the mouse pointer over what you want to get more information about. It is a payware product though.Dave
February 7, 200521 yr Author You can also try a FREEWARE Flight Planner here in the library that I use.It is called Super Flight Planner. The Main Page is here:http://www.cpinf.net/web/products.phpFile in the Library is here:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...util&DLID=58247It appears there is a newer version at his website though, a version 3.0B%.It will show ILS Frequencies when mouse hovering over the ILS feather. I think this is a great FREEWARE alternative to some other programs, from what I have read about features, etc... but YMMV.Please be sure to read the documentation. use CTRL F to search, and then Highlight, Right Click and choose center on map. then Zoom in or move around where you want it. You also must have navaids ILS chosen under the view options for Navaids. February 7, 200521 yr Someone may have mentioned this already, but here are the two sites I use.To get ICAO codes:http://www.airrouting.com/content/airportloc.htmlThen, using these codes to get ILS info:http://www.fscharts.com/index.phpThe problem with using your cursor over a moving map to ge the ILS info is that it's sometimes hard to do in areas with a lot of airports; so you need to hunt around to find the runway, then zoom in, zoom back out. You often have to do this while planning your approach, getting hit with all sorts of commands from ATC. Either buy yourself a set of approach charts or use these websites to get the info before you start your flight.ricardo
February 7, 200521 yr Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!Thanx 2 all for the prompt and numerous replies. I do have real world charts for New York to Chicago and approach plates for PA. I'll try printing a more from my brother's computer since mine isn't wired. I have spent hours poring over Learning Center articles but before I read the 27 pages on the GPS I wanted to be sure what I was most interested in was available. Next time I will check FAQ. As far as FS9 goes...:-newbie
