February 8, 200521 yr I have received an e-mail from WMPro stating that a patch to address a number of issues will be released this Friday. At the same time an instruction manual will also be made available. Meanwhile, I would suggest that anyone contemplating buying this addon might like to hold fire until the patch is released and those of us who already have the software can report back here. The biggest problem I am having with WMPro at the moment is that it repeatedly causes FS2004 to crash to a Black SOD.The current lack of a manual makes it somewhat difficult to understand how to set up weather in the first place and how to do other things like modify an existing weatherscape. Again, if I set a weather feature like a cold or warm front can I move it or delete it if I have put it in the wrong place? If this is possible then I have yet to discover how.If you want to set your own dynamic weather then the software works by selecting a weather feature - there are no tool tips against icons - and clicking a point on a map where you would like to implement the feature. I find that the map is far too small to place features with any degree of accuracy. I cannot find any means of zooming in on the map - that's if one exists, of course.Prospective purchasers should also be aware that you need a permanent Internet connection to run the software. My PC which runs FS2004 does not have an Internet connection but, to be fair, the developer has said that he will create a means of being able to use the software in such a situation. The concept behind WMPro is a good one but my experience of the add on so far has not been encouraging. Fortunately, I am currently running it on a test machine and I will try the software again when the patch is released. However, if it does not cure my problems at that stage then I will put the whole affair down to experience and move on.David
February 8, 200521 yr I pretty much agree. I have not yet been able to actually use this program to create a satisfactory weatherscape. Too buggy, unpredictable and undocumented at this time. Another thing you didn't mention is that it can take up to 5+ minutes to load a single weather scape. However I do think there is some brain-activity and advanced stuff going on behind the useless user interface so I still have hopes that with a few patches this will turn out to be a good utility.I hope they offer a way to run the program without an Internet connection as I'm on dialup for 3-4 months every year. I don't know about you but I don't like the idea of spending 1-2 minutes dialing up, paying $1 in the process, just to start a program. -
February 8, 200521 yr Author Commercial Member I want to make everyone aware that we have suspended the ability to purchase Weather Maker Professional until these issues can be resolved and Weather Maker Pro can be solidified. It was not our intention to put out a product with so many issues. Our intention was to put out a product that was a base to build off of. A product that gave an alternative to other ways of creating Weather in FS2004. Thus, we all the suggestions (aside from the issues) we have received over the past 48 hours, we want everyone to know that we intend to deal with those suggestions. However, our main focus right now is to provide a stable product. Once that has been reached we will begin to address the enhancments. Thus, once our product has been made more stable we will make it available for purchase again.I believe all of us have the same purpose in mind. We want a more realistic experience with the weather in FS9. We want to provide that to you. My hope is overtime we will be able to provide that for you. February 8, 200521 yr ReedThank you for your post and being so honest with us.I am sure that we all want a good and stable product from you - at least, I do - and I am now willing to wait until that happens. The concept behind WMPro is a good one and deserves success. However, I do wonder how good your beta testers were :-( Maybe you need to think about getting some new ones? :-)David
February 8, 200521 yr This concept sounds like something I've been looking for. I hope it can be made to work. I like to use FS to keep my IFR skills sharp, and something I've always wanted is to be able to add the element of uncertainty to the ceiling and visibility, and perhaps have the weather change dynamically as the approach is flown. That's not really possible to do when you set up the weather manually using the default FS settings.
February 8, 200521 yr Author Commercial Member Hi David -I just want to say that the buck stops with me when it comes to releasing a product - whether it is ready or not. I am tremendously grateful for our beta testers. They were very good at what they did. At the time I felt it was ready to go. Obviously, we will have to re-group after this smooths out and learn from our mistakes. The bottom line is that I did not want to continue a product that was going to cause more frustration than a solution. So when this has been resolved I hope we can start again. Reed StoughManaging PartnerREX SIMULATIONS website: www.rexsimulations.comsupport: www.rexaxis.com
