February 17, 200521 yr I just installed AEU7.0 (upgrade from 6 lite) and have tremendous stutters, the sim takes 5 plus seconds to load textures and stutters for 2 seconds every 10 seconds. AEU 6 Lite works perfectly smooth. I do have a fairly high end machine P4 2.8, ATI 9800 Pro, 1 Gig ram, so should not have problems with this. Any ideas? I am sure it is something in my setup as others with similar machines don't have this issue with AEU. thanks,Mark. Mark CYYZ
February 18, 200521 yr Mark,Your post seems to have been overlooked, I'm very sorry about that. Both AEU 6 and AEU 7 have become notorious for giving some folks a bad time with stutters. These are generally seen as sort of a "snag" or a pause in the fluidity whenever an airport comes into view. The reason this happens is because of the extremely high level of detail in my textures. They are much larger (in some cases) than the original default textures.I have already announced that I will not be officially authorizing or producing any further reductions in detail. I have already made reductions by half to 47% of the original 31 textures in AEU. I feel that further reductions defeat what I intended for people to experience in terms of viewable details.I may have something that will help you here though...If you haven't already installed the Omega drivers for your ATI card, then go to the following link and do so right away! :)http://www.omegadrivers.net/I would very much like to hear back from you to see if this helps, as I really think it will. :-beerchug
February 18, 200521 yr Author Chris, thanks for your response. I do have Omega drivers, however, I think they are not the latest ones so I will upgrade and try it again.I will post the results.regards,Mark. Mark CYYZ
February 19, 200521 yr Chris, you seem to be taking a lot of heat about this fine upgrade. I do not have stutters (at least none I didn't have before) I love AEU 7.0I have AMD Barton 24001 meg 3200 memoryAti 9600 XTMB with NForce2.It looks good and runs fine with the ATI latest drivers, I installed last night. I run many of my sliders well to the right but do not use autogen. In addition, I run all of my videocard drivers to max for AA and filtering.I suspect those with problems need to clean up their drivers both video and motherboard to get the performance they need. Oh, did I mention running Ultimate Traffic at 100% operating out of Heathrow, Atlanta and Denver as well as other airports.Good work and keep it coming.
February 19, 200521 yr >Chris, you seem to be taking a lot of heat about this fine>I suspect those with problems need to clean up their drivers>both video and motherboard to get the performance they need. And I suspect that has little to do with drivers. Also I suspect great majority of us here is fairly skillful in cleaning and installing the drivers. Things like autogen or other settings could play a part but I suspect the main culprit is the level of tolerance/sensitivity for pauses or stutters which varies highly among individuals. February 19, 200521 yr Thanks for saying thanks, but Michael is correct. AEU is plagued due to the immense texture sizes. The stuttering does vary a small amount between systems, but is ever present. Most folks remain blissfully unaware that a short pause takes place right at the moment an airfield comes into view. It is at this moment that my textures load into the visual and remain loaded until the airport is no longer in view. As I've said, everyone will get the pause, and slower systems will pause for longer durations. Some simmers are very sensitive to this type of stuttering, even on faster machines. The good news is that frame rates appear to be largely unscathed. Thanks again! :)
February 21, 200521 yr Author Chris,Here is the feedback on the drivers. I upgraded from Omega 2597 beta drivers to the newly released Omega 2605a. I would say that running AEU7 is made little to no difference.I have also now installed resautogentex from the Avsim library. It adds reduced sized autogen and trees. This has made more of a difference, which makes sense as the autogen files are smaller so any autogen loaded around the airport is not taking as long to load. I still get pauses but few of them and for a shorter time. thanks for all of your work on the AEU series. They have been an essential download for me for years.regards,Mark. Mark CYYZ
