February 23, 200521 yr good day,i am a very happy flyer with ivao, everythin is running smoothly, but there is one small but getting bigger problem.i am trying for the last couple of days to get contrails on the other aircraft. I just Gridley's Guide to Contrails here available on the avsom forum, and added the effects , engine temp. etc etc to the ivap aircrafts but i can't get it to work. Is there anybody out there trying this also, or maybe has it running??I tghink it's in the way micropose designed fs9, but i don't understand that because the aircraft is from the aircraft libraryrickklm027
February 23, 200521 yr Author I'm happy to try and help out - what specifically seems to be the trouble? Even after running markus' utility, your other planes, AI or user flyable, don't have contrails?Look forward to hearing back!Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
February 23, 200521 yr Scott,The planes i fly have contrails, even the ai ones, and here it comes, the planes from ivao are from aardvark etc when i fly them they have contrails. That's the strange thing about it. I now the installation of the effects went all oke because i can see the contrails, thats why i am confused about this.hope you can help out here, because it would be fantastic on my favorite flight with the pmdg from tripoli to eham (lots of trafic and nice scenery/ real world weather, to see the planes cruising by with long contrails.rick
February 23, 200521 yr Author Just to restate then: your planes all seem to have contrails installed because when you fly them as non-AI, you see contrails but when the AI flies them, no contrails?I'm going to make a guess. Your AI planes don't actually have contrails properly installed, or the temperature at which they form is set very low so you'll never see them. What happens when you run markus' AI-contrail utility is that the aircraft.cfg is edited for each type of aircraft you select. If you want to add contrails to only AI planes, uncheck the "flyable planes" checkbox. Also, for testing, set the MIN Contrail temp to something absurd like +50 - you should have every single plane spewing contrails. One final tip - make certain that you enter the file name of the effect correctly! If it doesn't seem to be working, leave off the .fx extension - I can't recall if markus hard coded the extension in.To check, open the aircraft.cfg of one of your AI aircraft, then use the find function in your editor to search for "contrail" and you should find two entries, one with the file name of the effect used for contrails by that aircraft, and one for the temperature below which the contrail should form.If the names and numbers don't match, then there's something going wrong with the util. If they do match, and you're still not seeing contrails...email me!Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
February 23, 200521 yr Scott, thanks for your answer, i looked in my aircraft.cfg and there were no effects (anymore, at all???),has probaly something to do with flyable and non flyable aircraft, i will set things up tomorrow morning urly up again, and do my favourite flight again. I have no time anymore i have to go to my first hobby ( my lovely wife).by the way i am using your asynchrios strobes also, thanks for that.i will post or e-mail about this tomorrow that's for sure, because when it works, we can put it in the ivao airplane package, and then there are plenty happy pilots.regardsrick
February 24, 200521 yr In FS9, you will only see any con-trails if the aircraft is above FL300.All the best,Dave.'Three greens and soft landings' Dave Taylor

February 24, 200521 yr Author >In FS9, you will only see any con-trails if the aircraft is>above FL300.That's absolutely not true dave! It's controlled by temperature, and most often, contrail forming temp will occur at high altitude, but it is not a hard-coded altitude for contrail formation. Check Gridley's Guide to Contrails for more info...But, I think I see the problem here. Where does IVAO.cfg come from? Markus' AI contrails util only makes the changes to aircraft.cfg - either the IVAO.cfg file needs to edited manually, or recreated to reflect the changes made to aircraft.cfg by the contrail util. But, AI planes shouldn't be using IVAO.cfg, right? They should still be using aircraft.cfg, which should have the required parameters...Please let us know how it's going!Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
February 24, 200521 yr So then tonight i will start to ad the effects and temp. manually to the aircraft ivao.cfg's will be a monster job, but i hope it works.Rick
February 24, 200521 yr Author But you shouldn't have to...First, because only the user's aircraft not AI use IVAO.cfg, right? I'm not sure about that - can someone jump in?Second, isn't there some utility or IVAO installer that will convert aircraft.cfg into IVAO.cfg for you...?Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
February 24, 200521 yr this part i dont understand.ivao puts a package with aircraft in the fs9/aircraft folder, named IVAO_A330 and IVAO_B737 etc etc. The aircraft have both a aircraft.cfg and ivao.cfg, (and now also a aircraft without contrails.cfg). So this means when i fly the aircraft it uses aircraft.cfg, and for ivao it uses ivao.cfg??I hope there is such a installer, because it are a lot of planes, and becoming more, and more.Secondly i don't understand where did the effect go in the aircraft.cfg. i now for sure that it was there, see also the aircraft without contrail.cfgrick
February 24, 200521 yr Author I'm sorry I can't be more specific - I have no idea how IVAO works. I do know that FS9 never reads IVAO.cfg directly, regardless if the plane is hand flown or AI. Either some utility that you run when using IVAO converts IVAO.cfg to aircraft.cfg (that would explain why your contrails entries are disappearing) when you fly with it...in that case, you will need to edit IVAO.cfg directly, since your modified aircraft.cfg are being overwritten. The lines to look for, or add, are the following:in the [effects] section:contrail=fx_A_I_Contrail (or whatever effect you're using)and in the [generalenginedata] section:max_contrail_temperature=-27 (or whatever temperature you've set)I hope someone can jump in here with some more info on how IVAO works...Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
February 24, 200521 yr ok i will start editing the cfg's now and then test it, tonight/ tomorrow, i will report back.thank you Scott, rick
February 24, 200521 yr edited all the ivao.cfg's notting happened, tried i flight above the netherlands, with cold temp setup. no contrails, i used a ivap f16 ai plane and it had contrails the others which were flown by other pilots not.anyone have a idea??
