June 5, 201411 yr My ancient CH Flight Sim Yoke just broke. The post for one of the springs snapped off. Now, should buy the same yoke or the newer Eclipse. There is almost $100 difference. I am more interested in smooth operation than lots of switches. If the Eclipse is smoother then I may spring for the extra $ ??? regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
June 5, 201411 yr Moderator The main difference between the standard CH yoke and the Eclipse are the addition of more switches and Rudder 'paddles'. The innards between the two are just about the same. I broke part of the Spring Mounting post off on my Eclipse, too. At that point, I replaced the steel 'screen door' Return springs with two short lengths of HD surgical tubing, and screwed the end of the tubing to the top of the Spring post with a self tapping screw and a bead of Super Glue. The other end of the tubing was screwed to the Center Yoke plate in the same fashion. It was a 'quick fix' that's lasted three years, and I got a smoother, less noisy Eclipse yoke in the process! For the money, I'd personally get the Standard CH yoke instead of the Eclipse (i presume you already have Pedals)...
June 5, 201411 yr I have had both CH yokes and feel the shaft bearing of the Eclipse is considerably smoother than the earlier version. We'll worth the extra cost in my opinion. Also, it does not spring back to centre as another popular yoke does which makes it nicer to fly.
June 6, 201411 yr Author I bought the cheap one. The shaft makes more noise operating the elevators than the old one. Sounds like I am hand sanding wood. CH Products must be financial trouble and dumping old inventory because this should have been sent back for rework. Maybe it needs broken in.. The one that broke was bought used so I can't compare at this stage. Anyhow I would not recommend this all plastic CH Products stuff if you want to emulate the "feel" of driving an aircraft. regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
