June 7, 201411 yr Hi Good People, Edward and I are considering adding a new "Support" aircraft for use in the Ford Tri-Motor Project. The FS2004 De Havilland DH.91 Albatross by Jens B. Kristensen. This aircraft fits within our era specific range and would be a great addition to the overall impact of the Ford Tri-Motor Project. Below are some screenshots of some tinkering with liveries for this girl. I know she is a fully wooden aircraft - but I, of course, did some tinkering with some full metal skin versions - just to see how they would come out. However, before we get stuck into integrating this girl into the project there are two things that need to be addressed: (1) I have been trying to get in touch with Jens to seek his consent for us to use his aircraft for the Project but have had no response so far. Without his consent then we cannot proceed with the aircraft and a package of liveries for her. If anyone knows a more current e-mail for Jens then please let me know so that I may contact him. (2) If consent is forthcoming then we need to know if there is interest out there for us to put in the time and effort to create a batch of era specific liveries for this girl. Therefore we request that you let us know your opinion via this forum or via e-mails to either Edward or I - your are also welcome to suggest a livery for inclusion in the suite. Edward's e-mail [email protected]Garry's e-mail [email protected] Thanks for your time and I look forward to your responses. Happy simming to all. Garry Garry J. Smith Aircraft Texture Tinkerer
June 7, 201411 yr Author Hi again good people, Couple of heads up on finding Jens in some other forums - but to no avail. Seem he might have stepped away from simming back in 2010. Any additional clues on a contact for Jens would be appreciated from any AVSIM patrons. A great, and important aircraft for the era - sadly diverted from becoming a serious contributor to aviation as work by de Havilland was focussed on the Mosquito wooden aircraft for WWII. June 9, 201411 yr Yes please! I hope we are able to get this into our hanger. To the paint fundi's out there.. I would love to get some 'Steampunk' paints for the aircraft. Imagine a flock of various Ford Tri-Motor Project's planes? Garry & team... thanks so much for all you guys have given us. Regards, Robin Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
June 9, 201411 yr Any additional clues on a contact for Jens would be appreciated from any AVSIM patrons. Hi Garry, In regards to contacting Jens B. Kristensen. Have you explored the possibility of checking with Tom Gibson either here on AVSIM (I know he's around here on the FS9 forum once in awhile.) or over at CalClassic Propliners? That is the only idea I could come up with. Sorry if that is no help. The De Havilland DH.91 Albatross is one beautiful aircraft. Amazing looking design for the period! Good luck with contacting Jens B. Kristensen. It would be a shame to miss this addition to you groups fine work. Regards
June 9, 201411 yr Author Thanks Mel, Yep - contacted Tom over at CalClassic and he forwarded on to Jens mail addressed used in 2013. Also joined and made a forum request at Jens last known Radio Controlled Aircraft club in Denmark.- all in Danish but at least they had a thread for English input. :-) Thanks also to Robin for his input. Hopefully we will get this girl out of the dust closet and flying again in some good era specific liveries. Regards Garry Garry J. Smith Aircraft Texture Tinkerer
June 12, 201411 yr Author Hi All, Jens Kristensen has approved the use of his deHavilland DH91 aircraft for the Ford Tri-Motor Project. But we still need feedback from patrons on there interest in the Ford Project Team developing a batch of historical (what if) liveries for this aircraft. Please spend a moment and give us some feedback - it helps us to know that there is interest in further development for this girl. Regards Garry Garry J. Smith Aircraft Texture Tinkerer
June 12, 201411 yr I'm on my 'dripping tap' nag mission once again, for 'what if' liveries.. see above. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
June 13, 201411 yr But we still need feedback from patrons on there interest in the Ford Project Team developing a batch of historical (what if) liveries for this aircraft. Glad you got the necessary permission! Well I am a bit biased of course, but I would just love to see this aircraft in the old American Airlines livery or the old Delta livery as per the DC4 or DC6. Although I wouldn't complain about United or Pan Am either. Fictional I know, but you did say, "what if". Thanks for your time. Best regards,
June 13, 201411 yr Author Hi Gentlemen, Thanks for your input - appreciated - the great part about historical renditions of aircraft liveries is that we can be creative with our imagination. We at the Ford project try to emulate actual airlines or aircraft liveries of the era - however with the DH91 there were just 6 ever made - therefore, to make her something more exciting we can reach out and do era specific liveries for "what if" airlines and other users of that era. The important thing is that we try to create liveries that are suitable for the 1930's era and artwork style. Fortunately there is plenty of scope available to us with almost 2000 repaints so far across a broad specturm of a very wide range of liveries and styles. And I suspect when Edward starts to task the liveries for me to create that there will be a bucket of US styles in there - taking into account recommendations in this and other forums. June 14, 201411 yr Author Hi All, For the sake of a tinker I have created a Wooden Plank version of the DH91 - this should make it clear to the purists out there that she is a totally wooden aircraft. Scrubbed up pretty good in FS2004 even if I do say so myself You can check out the others that I have done over at the Ford Project site Coming Soon page: http://www.ford-tri-motor.net/coming-soon.htm Regard and happy simming.
