June 14, 201411 yr I occasionally have a CTD but usually (thank goodness) they are rare enough, or can be attributed to something dumb that I have done and can be un-done, that I haven't paid too much attention to them.. In the past 2 days I have had 2 CTD's in P3D v2.2. One occurred in flight with the Airbus X while switching views, and the other with the Duke v2 sitting at KDEN ( FlightBeam version), with the aircraft running at idle and no movement other than AI traffic. I have EXCA and Ultimate Traffic 2 running, and am running Windows 8.1 / 64 bit. I have several virus scanners that i thought were turned off from scanning. Back in February of 2013 I had some CTD's and downloaded AppCrashView, which was helpful in having someone else diagnose an issue at the time. i re-ran AppCrashView today, and noted that neither of the 2 CTD's were listed- in fact the most recent event was May 24 (last month), before which I had many events listed (I can't recall seeing CTD's for all of these listings prior to 5/24/14, so assume that they include non-CTD's as well). My question is why the 2 recent CTD events would not be listed, where a bunch of issues prior to 5/24/14 are listed, most (if not all) I cannot recall being something that got my attention? Thanks for any help, Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
June 15, 201411 yr My question is why the 2 recent CTD events would not be listed, where a bunch of issues prior to 5/24/14 are listed, most (if not all) I cannot recall being something that got my attention? Not all "CTD's" in FSX/P3D are CTD's. Many crashes in FSX/P3D are simply fsx/p3d having compatibility issues and then shutting down and restarting. These will appear in the Event Viewer and one of the reasons why we provided instructions on how to check out the Event Viewer in the AVSIM CTD Guide. The AppCrashView only shows reports of crashes in which a Microsoft Crash Report (.wer) was generated. The Microsoft Crash Reports are in the User/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/WER directory. After a while they are converted to Archives and will not appear in the AppCrashView report. The Archives and .wer reports can be removed at any time if desired. You have Windows 8.1 so AppCrashView may not be fully compatible but I have not heard of any incompatibility problems in the past. More info about this program can be found at the following link - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html. The causes of your crashes are most likely incompatibility crashes as the AVSIM P3D Compatibility List - http://forum.avsim.net/topic/426926-p3d-v2-master-compatibility-list-closed/ - indicates some incompatibilities with the Aerosoft AirbusX and RealAir's Duke 60 V2. There are also some things you have to do to Ultimate Traffic 2 to make it run properly too as shown in the link. If you run these applications in P3DV2 you are going to have to accept some crashes until the developers issue compatible updates. AppCrashView will not show any incompatible type crashes but they should show up in the Event Viewer. Hope this helps. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! June 16, 201411 yr Author Hi Jim, Thanks for the comprehensive reply which is very helpful. That explains why I may not be seeing any "CTD" info in AppCrashView. I was also aware of the issues in both the RA Duke v2 (gauge copywrite issues) and the Airbus X... so that may be the issue- I will tray flying with some P3D-specific aircraft to see if I get any issues with them, it might help isolate the issues. Thanks again, Jim, and also for all the good work you do here at AVSIM. Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
