I am moving this summer, and have recently realized I am in desperate need of a new computer. My current, low-end HP laptop cannot run the PMDG 737, REX4, and default scenery on low settings above 15 fps at best. On top of that, (I think because Im running windows 8), it keeps freezing and acting all wonky.

For all the reasons listed above, I have decided to go ahead and get a good desktop. I am going to build, so I can start within my budget and upgrade when I get the money. Before i list my budget, here are my requirements

-at least 20 FPS, SMOOTH, at the current settings meeting all other requirements (I will attach photos of my settings)

-able to run PMDG 737 or 777, REX4 Essential Plus with Overdrive, and sceneries such as FlightBeam KIAD and FlyTampa KBUF

-Windows 7

-able to also be used as a normal computer for school and other personal uses

-will be able to handle numerous home cockpit components (this will not happen immidiately, I will have time to upgrade computer before installing home cockpit components)

I have about $300 saved up right now, and would only probably be able to get another $300 at the moment. I am able to upgrade later, especially around christmas or my birthday. Thanks for all the help!

PS. I dont know a ton about computers, which is why I make my own thread. Helps me understand what people are telling me better.

I took screenshots of my settings but cant figure out how to attach them

You are definitely going to require an overclocked i7-4770K Processor. I am running an i7-4770 (non K version) at 3.90 GHz; and there is no way it could meet your requirements.

Holy that is a really expensive piece of hardware. The cheapest one I can find is almost half my budget?! I realize the processor is important, but would $300 be enough to make the rest of the computer? Also I am running reletively low settings, I get about 10-15 fps with the PMDG 737NGX, REX4 and default scenery on my HP Pavillion G6 Laptop. I only need the capacity to do scenery, and more framerate with increased reliability and the room to improve in the future. Also if anyone knows how to upload photos to this thread that would be great.

No he doesn't. I'm not sure why everyone seems to think that there was no life before the 4770k? I'm still blowing a lot of systems away with my over clocked 2600k. I'm not saying all, I'm just saying that there are more good chips available besides the 4770k.

I would buy a 4690K for $270, a Z97 mother board for around $130, a 700W PSU for about $65, 8 GB / 1600MHZ Ram for $85, 500GB HDD for $55 and a cheap but large tower, for about $40. Total would be about $650, plus tax, so I guess you need to save another $100.

Start playing FSX using the on board video, and ask for you Bday: GTX 770 or 760, and for Xmass a 3rd party air or liquid cooler for about $90, so you can over clock and get the most out of your cpu. if you want you can add an SSD as a last step in the future.

If you also need a screen, mouse and keyboard, it's a whole different ball game with the added expenses, so in that case you should wait until you can afford all of it.

If you can still change your order I would go with this RAM

...or this one if you absolutely need 16GB

just the icing on the cake, on a monster rig. enjoy it!

I would hold off for a bit.  Everything you're trying to do is going to require a pretty powerful rig, likely far in excess of a $600 budget.  The graphics card alone is going to put you over your target.  Intel on-board graphics are NOT going to cut 20 fps in FSX with any kind of complex aircraft and fancy scenery.

I know that $2000 to $3000 is not do-able for you. So the people suggesting rigs like that aren't being helpful.
