re-install fsx to c programmes

Featured Replies

is it ok to do a reinstall of fsx to c programmes and just naming it FSX? instead of the default?

Vernon Howells

You can name the directory anything you wish when installing. I would suggest that you also AVOID installing to the C:Programs(x86) or whatever that default path is.

In Win7/Vista this will avoid the M$ enforced over-protection of your files for FSX.

EDIT:

I see that AVSIM automatically replaces M + dollar sign, which I used above, with 'Microsoft'. How very PC of them! And I resent that 'editing'!

Paul (I have FSX installed on my X: drive.)

already done it just named it FSX

having few problems though since doing that i cant save pfpx fp to the 737 ngx saying cant write to file?

also do you have My traffic x 5.4c?

Vernon Howells

Yes, FSX in ''Programe files' will cause you headache. This is because windows see programe files as the files to run windows, and allowing you to make changes could cause windows to stop working...This is why you see ''cannot write to file'', as in effect you are trying to change something in programe files.

There are ways around it, but in the long run it would save you alot of stress to install FSX in ''C:/FSX'' and not C:/Programe files/FSX

??...then you shuoldnt be seeing ''Cannot wright to file''...

When you installed, what did you type in as an adress for FSX?... did you change ''Microsoft flight simulator X to 'FSX' ( making the address c:/Programe file/FSX ) or did you type in, where it asks where you would like it to be installed, C:/FSX...??

Also, does your windows account have full admin rights?

so i hope by installing it not into the default i get no more ctd. i usually get the msvcr80.dll and thats related to fsx cause of a bad install. fingers crossed.

do you get any ctd?

Vernon Howells

Ok glad to hear your sorted.

...and no i dont get ctd..( ive had FSX installed and have used it for years on the 1 install ) i have had 2 in the past,  but i didnt get a crash report...but i think it was my weather engine not updateing the weather properly.

I hope having it out of the programe files solves your problems.
