June 23, 201411 yr Can anyone advise me of their experience of how good or realistic thermals are in ASN? I'd particularly be interested to hear from real glider pilots. How do they compare with CumulusX ones? I have just downloaded it and had a quick fly around our local gliding club yesterday in "live" mode but didnt find any however the "real" gliders were finding some though admittedly not very strong ones! How does ASN and cumulusX combine? are any special settings required? Any help appreciated! Thanks
June 23, 201411 yr Let's say that thermals and overall soaring weather aren't the strongest points of either fsx or x-plane. Both are too far from the real thing. CumulusX! will get you a bit more plausible experience, but even so.... If you're really up to simulating glider flying & weather, use Condorsoaring or SilentWings - both very good, although by far Condor has a lot more activity and online competitions available, and got a lot more supported, while it was supported, than SW... The rest is.... music.... Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
June 23, 201411 yr As jcomm says... Condor - the competition gliding simulator of choice. But, if it's a virtual Gliding Club you want with a cross country task published twice per week (since 2009!) whether offline or online, please visit us: www.ukvga.org and at Facebook. Active Sky Next thermals - too big, too strong and go way beyond the inversion layer, so unrealistic. CumulusX! - some variables to tweak, and so nearer the mark. Phil
