Reinstalling - Suggestions?

Featured Replies

I am beginning the epic task of reinstalling FSX with my addons.  Before I start, I wanted to make sure what I intend to install is still relevant.  My main concern is with Ultimate Terrain X and Ground Env. X  I own both but am considering grabbing FTX global.  Is either one of the two (GEX, UTX) redundant if I were to go that route?  Also, I own REX and OPUS.  I also own FEX (long outdated) but have found that many prefer to run OPUS with FEX textures versus REX textures.  Any thoughts?

Thank you for any guidance you can offer.

FTXG effectively replaces GEX. I run FTXG with UTX and FEX and am very happy with that combination where I fly, which is northern Europe. Others will have their own view !

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on FTXG yesterday.  Because I own both FEX and REX I went ahead and tried the FEX option with Opus and have to say that I am very pleased so far.  I am obtaining quite nice frames as well.  I also looked hard at vector but decided to hold off as I own UTX.  So I have that installed as well and have modified the options to work well with FTXG.  I am a happy armchair pilot at the moment.  Thank you for the advice as it basically reaffirmed what I was thinking to be the case.

If you don't have one already - get a good disc image software - I use Acronis, but others are just as good. Being able to revert to your last good copy when things go wrong is worth its weight in gold. Plus if hardware starts misbehaving, being able to go back to software that was definitely working OK, makes it much easier to diagnose if the software or hardware is at fault.  I image every week, just in case...

My 2 cents
