  1. Thank you for the help guys. I think I will order from newegg since I have premiere and can return items at no cost. I will try out the Asus predator and see how it goes. More than likely going to hold off a bit though and see what prices do. That is quite the cost for some extra real estate.
  2. I have been rocking my 27 inch Asus 1080 monitor for about three years. I am really wanting to jump to 4k but feel that I will lose too many frames in the process. Can anyone give me some insight. My new rig can pull 45+ frames in complex areas such as Orbx NCA San Fran area with Orbx addon airports. I have everything set super high and see 60-70, sometimes 80/90 when I am out of major urban areas doing VFR flying. specs: i7 6700 at 4.2, 16 gigs ram, EVGA 980ti watercooled Thank you for any input you can offer. I am leaning towards going with a 2k setup. Any recommended options will be considered and again I sincerely appreciate the time and advise. I can easily research the impact it will have on games like BF4 etc...but we (simmers) are not the vocal majority when it comes to hardware testing. Cheers Dan
  3. The family of one of the teens missing off the coast of Florida has reached out on Facebook to a friend of mine. They are able to compensate for a pilot, plane, and all expenses if anyone can help them search along with the coast guard. I have an email address they sent out. They have expanded the search area upwards towards the coast of South Carolina and I guess they just want as many sets of eyes out there as possible. If you or anyone you know could help out, please pm me. I know we have many RL pilots here. Thank you. Dan - -
  4. I started out running P3d with no HT but converted as you read. I feel that it is significantly smoother (for me). Just google "unpark cores" and that should take you on your way. You can use a tool that is free to download or you can do it yourself following directions and editing your registry (that's what I did). Read through this thread and all questions you asked are answered including how to figure out the affinity mask for your setup.
  5. I have a 3770k overclocked to 4.2 with HT=on. I was running it off but was interested in switching over. With HT=on and an affinity mask of 244 I am seeing much better results. Not a placebo for sure. Tested over Orbx San Carlos facing San Francisco. Never dipped below mid 30's while locked at 40. I was always dipping into the mid-20's prior. Also tested over other orbx areas an can confirm for my setup this is the way to go. I am liquid cooled so not worried about any additional heat. Is there another affinity mask setting I should be using? I like what I have and might just stick with it, but wanted to make sure I had it set up right. HT=on in bios cores unparked via registry, confirmed via unparking tool in p3d config...... [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=244 Thanks for this thread, it has made things much easier on the eyes. Still waiting on true fullscreen mode though so I can run the 1/2 refresh rate vsync option like i did in FSX....that will be magical.
  6. Does this mean the 1/2 refresh rate vsync trick will be working for prepar3d?? I know in FSX that was the best thing since sliced bread for me. Fingers crossed... Dan
  7. Those are the ones I am on right now....maybe i will try the newer ones and see. Thanks.
  8. ok..thanks. I didn't try that one and it appears that it does not affect the papi or runway lights...only the newest ones.
  9. What is the latest set that allows working lights (papi, runway, etc..) I know the last few have been a no go. Im running ones from around a year ago and would like to know the consensus on the best set for prepar3d compatibility. Thank you very much for your help. Dan
  10. That would be amazing. I have missed flying my Legacy! I check realair's website daily as I believe it will be one of the next ones they port over. I just hope they get it done before the next version of P3d drops.
  11. Feel free to delete this thread. The issue has been resolved. This is how it looks and there is nothing wrong on my end. Thanks. dan
  12. If you have NCA and some spare time, would you mind checking this out for me? I flew above Napa this weekend and noticed the textures not looking quite right. This is not typical Orbx quality, so I figure it my fault. I wanted to make sure though. All throughout the Eastern portion of Napa I get commercial blocks mixed with residential and roads going over residential and commerical sections. Even the water bodies are a bit off. If you can compare from your sim and report back I would greatly appreciate it. I posted up on the Orbx help forums but know they are probably quite busy with recent releases. Thanks all for the help.
  13. Things are just getting better and better in aviation sim land. I love how everything on my system looks now....but the vegetation always bugged me close up. I cannot wait to see the difference while flying low and slow! Dan
  14. You can try everything and most likely will still have microstutters. We cannot do the 1/2 refresh rate fix that worked so well with FSX due to P3D being a pseudo-fullscreen (windowed) app. I am hoping there is a fix from this down the road either on Nvdia's side (for me) or from LM. Fingers crossed.....I have minimized it and there are still more postives for P3D so I am for sure not reverting.
  15. I have to agree. I chased this for years with FSX. Changing hardware, config tweaks, slider settings. When the 1/2 refresh rate and vsync fix came around - they were gone...instantly. I still have stuttering in P3D, but it is mild. I know not to chase them around in circles like I did in FSX. And....these stutters vary. Some have them and do not see them, some can see them and do not know what they see is "stuttering." It is a difficult conversation to have unless one can prop their box up next to another persons and compare. Man...we need a flight sim LAN gathering like quakecon. That would be a great way to get issues ironed out. Im waiting for a vsync fix to come our way and then I will worry about them. Right now they are minimal and I can live with it.
  16. I agree with User72. I ditched AVG years ago as it constantly produced false positives, especially when I was beta testing. Very irritating. I have used malwarebytes and avast and been fairly happy with that combination, but as most posts state - I turn them off when I am not needing to actively scan or have protection up and running (especially during installs).
  17. I switched over last week and I was a die hard FSX'er. I had it running so well and fluid that it was painful to turn my back on all of that hard work and tweaking (thousands of hours). I am so glad that I did. The interface is a breath of fresh air. It is stable - I have only crashed forcing Accufeel to work. The colors seem much nicer (hdr perhaps), the autogen does not look as old school. Overall a much more refined look and feel. I am only running ASN, Orbx regions, Orbx GA traffic, and REX cloud/sky textures. I fly VFR/IFR low and slow (sub 200knots most of the time) and could not be happier. I am happy I did it because in the FSX forums I kept reading opinions that it was just FSX with a different name. Some of the posters had not even tried it, but it did make me hesitate. I took the plunge and seriously recommend you do as well. You can get a refund if you do not like it or if it performs differently on your system. D-
  18. It sure is fun to start a thread asking for help, only to potentially find a solution on your own. Oh well...if thats what it took - so be it. I actually was following jabloomf1230's advice on turning down the sliders, when I noticed that turning them all the way down did nothing to solve my issue....so I thought - why not crank them up, remembering it worked for me with FSX. I am going to tweak ASN this evening and see if I can smooth things out even more. Orbx scenery can bring good boxes to their knees, so I am quite happy at the moment. If I gain no more, things are still much nicer than they were in FSX land. Any more tweaks or thoughts....let me know. Are you running REX clouds? That is still my only concern. I am thinking of going with Texture Direct, but I have essential at the moment. Not sure it would be worth it - from a performance perspective.
  19. Reporting back in. I used reverse logic. It worked with FSX so I was thinking.....hmm. I jacked up both building and vegetation autogen to the max far right setting. I left scenery complexity at Dense. I remember reading that in FSX if you lowered autogen settings on a system that could handle max - it would actually add stuttering. I just flew with that being my one and only change and it seemed to have worked. Im not sure if it is the real cause for my now smooth flying but maybe its worth a shot for others. I will report back in if I see a difference and it was indeed a fluke.
  20. I have turned down sliders in batches and one at a time. I have yet to find anything that gets rid of the occasional jitters. Its not rhythmic....and does not seem to have anything to do with scenery intensity. it happens when getting over a hundred fps out in the middle of nowhere. It does the same thing FSX did prior to the 1/2 refresh rate fix. I even switched back to stock clouds....quite a bummer when I can fly at 60fps minimum all over the joint... Im happy to fly and ignore it due to the nice image quality of P3D - however I was hoping maybe someone with it running ultra smooth could share their slider settings.....thanks. Dan
  21. Thanks for the quick reply... Hmm...a 780...I cannot see myself making a jump vid card wise as this 690 is quite a beast and I would need a couple of 7 series cards to justify the leap. I am even considering holding out past the 9 series cards for it to make financial sense. I wonder if my card and yours are incredibly different (architecture wise). Are you using the most up to date drivers? Thanks. I looked at what was causing the crash and it pointed to the Accufeel module in the DLL. I scoured their website for support and it seems they have no interest in releasing a P3D compatible version which is quite disappointing. Like I said...it will run most of the time, but crashes about 50 percent of the time which can be annoying.
  22. Hi all. I am a recent convert over to the world of P3D. I am quite pleased at this point, but wanted to share what I am running, software/add-on wise in hopes that any advise can be given. I used full screen mode in FSX and the 1/2 refresh rate fix to achieve amazingly smooth, absolute stutter free performance. I have tried about everything under the sun with P3D, but due to my nvidia 690 and fullscreen not being "true" fullscreen, the 1/2 refresh rate fix does not apply to P3D. Therefore I have stutters. I have tweaked slider settings, tried vsync in game, and tried the FFTF=0.01 etc....to no avail. They were definitely minimized, but not gone. I am running around in ORBX land and have every one of their region packages. I also run 40 percent GA traffic using their GA traffic addon for their regions. I am flying VFR only and using the stock aircraft at the moment as none of my realair planes have been converted over to P3D. I read that many are getting rid of the stutters, so other than trying the FFTF tweak, what else have you guys found eliminates or almost eliminates them? I am also using the optimized (lower res) cloud sets from REX and have left ALL ASN settings at their installed defaults. I am running ASN for weather generation, REX essential for cloud and sky textures, and as stated above, orbx sceneries. Nothing more. I tried to get A2A accu-feel to work, but it would crash the sim 50% of the time due to it not being supported officially I am assuming. I would get a .dll crash, and yes I did modify the dll as instructed by several forum posts. Sometimes it would work fine, other times it would crash - so I removed it altogether. I appreciate the advice of anyone running a similar setup to mine.....VFR flying low and slow. My hardware specs can be found in my profile. Thanks for the help all Dan -
  23. Hi Opus, I absolutely love your weather engine. I have been using it for a while in FSX but have since migrated to P3D 2.4 Is there any guidance you can give me in regards to getting my FEX cloud textures into P3D? I know it is one of the cloud texture sets you guys recommend as they are more realistic. I completely agree but know that FEX will not work with P3D. Any guidance is appreciated. If not FEX, what should I look to, to achieve the same results. I have used REX as well but feel they tax my system more and are very aggressive looking. Thank you very much. Dan
