  1. I have to ask the same question. as much as I am liking the clouds, if it cannot match up with ASX, it might have to be a return purchase for me. I really do not want to have to select cloud sets before I fly. I like the fact that the weather is dynamic, and should change on its own.what to do....will the weather engine upgrade be free for purchasers of FEX??thanks for the info..d - -
  2. You dont have the cash, dont condemn others about it. Just save up for a few months, and build the same system I did now, for about 300 less than I did. Thats what my plan was, and it worked. I planned and saved for over 4 months to get where i am now. or......stay with FS9 You don't see my crawling into the FS9 forums saying it is outdated.Everything is like this, you want the next best thing, you have to make a judgement call to pay up, or sit and watch. If it is a serious hobby to you, which it is to many here, you save some cash up, cash in and enjoy yourself and the company around you. 1500 bucks plus some addons is so little to invest, when I needed a new box anyway, from my 4 year old one. I always buy behind the tech curve and save a bundle, you should try the same. maybe build at christmas and make my system for under a grand. That would be a good buy.good luck, and try to stay somewhat positive, it is only software.d - -
  3. What a MUCH needed comment...can't you just keep things like this inside your head. There are MANY people here including myself, running 60% plus traffic, along with a LevelD, no problems at all. Crying about FSX died quite a while ago with the processor price cuts, at least I thought it did. Danon --
  4. Ok, well that kinda is no fun if true.I really love X Graphics, active sky, and FEX. But I would rather run the clouds from FEX. So ASX will not talk to FEX?? Is that what I am reading, is this true??thanks for any help...d - -
  5. Ok, for the price of 30 minutes in the 172 down the road, I took the plunge.Speechless I guess comes to mind. I can only hope I have this set correctly. I disabled clouds, sky, and water in xgraphics - and installed FEX with its set of cloud, sky, and water textures. I am running ASX alongside so it can depict weather accurately, using the said FEX textures. Also have UTX installed to handle all the other road, landclass, and waterclass categories. I really cannot sum it up, the clouds are real, the water is real. The sky is, well....real. Not that Xgraphics was not doing a good job, its just that FEX focused on those three while xgraphics does more, so I will use these textures, but still xgraphics for road and rail, and airport - which is a MUST in my opinion. I would run default FSX online weather, but I am a believer that active sky is better at this, and because it only calls on textures, it will be calling on my FEX textures now....I would post screens but its a waste of time, as said above, they can only do so much, you simply have to go for a flight with real weather, somewhere it is not clear out, then you will see what I am typing about.and, NO fps hit at all!40 bucks well spent,my 2 centsD - -
  6. thanks for taking your time and making things clear for me..That is kinda what I had in my head, but now I do understand it. Now the debate begins..to purchase or wait....thanks againD -
  7. Ok, help!I have UTX with Xgraphics and Active Sky. I am wondering what to do about FEX. I know that I will need to disable some textures in Xgraphics, perhaps the clouds. I might be overcomplicating this, but it just seems like I might already have my bases covered, and this would be a redundant purchase for me (no offense intended). It looks great, and very tempting I must say. So is anyone else out there in my camp, did you take the plunge?its just water sky and clouds right??thanks for any advice you can offer...Danon - -
  8. you got that right!Yep, we must be on the same wavelength. I am not aware of smaller airports that are on the same level. I hope there are more I dont know about. I have the realair scout, decathlon, and citabria package which came with an updated version of bear gulch...that is pretty darn good I must say..If you find any, let me know, if I do - I will pm you.Good luck getting meigs to work fully...sorry I cannot help more.happyflightsD - -
  9. Hmm...I cannot recall an overwrite warning on my end. Only a few screens saying my scenery was being updated. I must guess that something did go wrong, and slewing might well be your best bet....Sorry that I am of no help, but glad you are able to have fun with it nonetheless.DillinghamX for Hawaii is another favorite of mine, it is payware - but easily worth it. Probably the most detailed small airport I have ever seen for FSX, if you are liking the Meigs rebirth, you would love Dillingham.D- -
  10. for me it shows up in atc, and also in the airport directory...so maybe there is an install issue. There are two main steps - a folder that has to go into addon scenery, and the bgl file. After that, did you go into your scenery directory within FSX and add the area?also, you have the put a tick in the addon scenery box listed there as well.let me know if this helpsd -
  11. Props are due to the following creators of this fine addition:Pedro Vendeira, Bob Familton, Dick Stellwegthank you so much for you hard work and efforts!Danon -
  12. Well I must post. I flew last night at Meigs for the first time in FSX. I was so tired of the reality of Meigs being a grass park, that I went online and searched the file library for Meigs. Two results popped up for FSX, I tried the second one down I believe (I am blocked from the library at work). Upon installing, which was painfully simple, I loaded up the Realair Decathlon at dusk, with ASX weather. AMAZING....Slowly watching Meigs slip away underneath me while I crab for the wind coming off the water, banking toward the city (left pattern, I know it was right pattern at Meigs, but this makes it MORE EXCITING!!) which was displayed in excrutiating detail, and flying the same circuit I flew in 1990 (my first flight in FS on my Packard Bell). On crosswind you can look down (trackir) and see the yachts docked in the harbor. I must have made about 10 trips around the circuit before the sun slowly set. There was sparse traffic coming in and out of the airport but the buildings, taxiways, and runway looked simply amazing. I was not expecting much when I installed this, but was blown away....maybe just a tad more than normal simply because I had Meigs back.So...for those missing it like me, you can grab the same file I did. I will give props to the creator when I get home this evening, as I do not have access to the file library and am on a work computer.enjoy - -danon-
  13. Wouldnt it be great if someone did a full blown detailed scenery for Meigs?? I think it would.I still remember the FS I was using in 1990, don't know which one that would be - Seems that is the only place I flew, maybe it was the default airport or something??Just a shame such a cool place is gone for good....d - -
  14. Are you serious?? That may have been true a year ago, but with proc. and upgrade prices at the floor, its amazing now. Im about to land the Level-D 767 and can't wait. The market for FSX is expanding each day.....d-
  15. I bound "decrease engine quickly" to a button on my stick. At least I think that is what it is called. That did the trick, but then again, im not using a quadrant.try binding that command from inside the controls menu, see if it works.Danon-
  16. I have the Pro Pedals and love em. In fact, I would fly with the keyboard if it mean I had to decide between the pedals and a stick. I am really thinking about this yoke as soon as I hear some feedback. I cannot force myself to purchase the CH yoke after seeing it and messing with it in frys. I hope the built quality is better, from pics is sure looks like it will be.DO-
  17. I agree it looks great. I dont wear glasses or anything. Not sure whats happening with you guys where it looks horrible. I hate jaggy text, and this is basically antialiasing the text. Much better on my end. Oh well...to each his own.DO -
  18. I used this on all my CRT's before I ever had an LCD, you can use it no matter your monitor!Just nav to your control panel, goto display, then appearance, and then effects..tick "use the following method to smooth screen fonts" and make sure clear type is selected...enjoy.Danon -
  19. no worries, I didnt even notice that you had said that, I was just pointing out an observation of my own....I think when Im flying heavies I will leave the road traffic off, and when im GA I will turn it on, seems to work well that way on my end. I will be liking the look of road surfaces free of the 2d image though!! :)Danon - -
  20. can't wait to try this when I get home! Thanks for the tip. Btw...car traffic is a HUGE FPS hit. At 10 percent I go from 38 locked anywhere to 21 in a city (houston). But yea, this should help the realism.thanks againDanon
  21. That would be great! I have narrowed it down to Ultimate Terrain. In order to have the more realistic roads and road routes, I also must have their road texture, which has embedded cars on it. Kinda wonder why they did that, knowing that many of us would opt to have real moving traffic on top...?? Anyway, looks like im stuck here until you finish your texture set....that will rock when you get it done btw... thanks for the help guys, lets keep eachother posted on this one.Danon O
  22. Ok heres the deal. I would like to run road traffic at 10%, not much - but not a huge FPS hit. All is good accept for the fact that I have flat embedded car graphics as part of the road texture itself. Has anyone else noticed this. The road texture has "built in" traffic on it. Seems like I need a new texture that is simply a solid color, because moving cars on top look a little strange...is there a fix. I have disabled the road textures from within X graphics but it does nothing.....thanks in advanceDanon O.
  23. I too have the exact same problem with the "broken haze." I will try what has been suggested, but even after SP1 I still see it, especially in the San Fran and LAX area due to the actual real fog they have. It just doesn't look right, and I saw this same thing before I bought ASX with default FSX weather settings...fingers crossedDanon -
  24. thanks for the replys, Ill check out both of those. Does autogen still work on top of photo scenery like Megascenery?? Or do you turn all autogen and buildings off?? Thanks.Danon o.
  25. I was flying around in FSX today, KLAX - KVNY area and noticed how nice and realistic Van Nuys is. If anyone here owns the DVD 16 Right, you may know what I mean. For those of you who have yet to check the airport out in the sim, I suggest you go fly into it. It is great for both heavies and GA aircraft as well. My question is this...has anyone designed scenery for this area that might further improve this great airport? The highway that runs under the runway, looks pretty dismal imo due to the landclass and runway texture join. I just cant help but think this would be or have been a great project for the flytampa squad, or someone else. Just thought I would ask..Danon -
