Still Trouble With Good Fps In Clouds

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

I still some issues with my FPS in heavy clouds. AFAIK my cfg is perfectly tweaked and NI has the good settings too. (I used DX10 How-to-doc to set everything)

I use REX 4 for the clouds textures and ASN for the weather.

I tried everything. New cloud theme, lowered maximum cloud layers in ASN. I sure forgot something.

Has anybody got some extra hints to gain FPS with an overcast sky?

Thnks!

PS: I now have a GTX 560. Over 2 weeks I get a GTX 680. Hope that helps too!

EDIT: In DX9 mode my fps were always fine with an overcast sky!

Just made some tests. Try this :

NVI

AA - Mode --> Appl

AA - Setting --> 8x or 16x

Trans. Multi -->  Enabled

Trans. Super --> Off

Negative Lod Bias --> 0.5 or 1.0

DX10SF

AA --> 8x or 16x

Clouds --> Disable MSAA ( check )

Clouds

Oscar - Clouds V4 --> use the lowest resolution ( Replacement Cumulus01 )

Hey

That sure worked very good. Especially the different cloud textures did the job! Thanks!

Only one thing. Why can't I have good frames with the REX4 clouds? In DX9 in worked, why not in DX10 mode? They sure look better then freeware clouds.

You can use every REX set you want , as long as you install the Oscar Cumulus as last one.

So you will have REX clouds.

Only the Cumulus 01 bitmap is being replaced.

Smallest REX version is 512x512 and

smallest Oscar version is 256x256 ( same size as default )

Also the Multi Sampling instead of Sparse Grid Super Sampling is giving you a boost..

Happy flying !

Roger that!

Though, I have to ask. Why do I get low FPS with only REX clouds? (without OSCAR clouds)

In DX9 mode I did not have any trouble.(even with high resolution clouds)

Is it my videocard which is to light for DX10? (can't imagine that...)

Is it the anti-aliasing which is too heavy?

Would a complete re-install of FSX help to get more frames?

Any other solution for this problem?

I'm thinking about re-installing FSX when I get the GTX 680 in a few weeks from a friend.

Each higher version of DX has improved and new features.

That can be more taxing on the graphics card.

The newer the graphics card model the more capable of handling those features.

If you are able to try a faster card you will be getting better fps and nicer graphics.
