AMD not enough?

Featured Replies

Last August, I bought and AMD computer from BestBuy (I was meant to buy in Intel version but the listings were identical and I made a mistake), it has an AMD FX8320 processor with a gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 motherboard, and an NVidia 650GTX graphics card. And my FPS in the sim are indecent.

They are always un-constant and laggy. I pull 5-7fps on the ground in the NGX, but it seems lower due to the lag.

I shot AMD an email and they sent my un helpful links to compatible processors my motherboard can support. The highest listing was the FX8320, I assume my motherboard can not support the FX9590 or similar. But since the FX8320 is high up, is it a good processor?

I know FSX likes Intel a bit more, so should I take out my motherboard and processor and put in an Intel motherboard and CPU? *if that is possible, I'm not that smart in the area*

If anyone has an AMD processor and get great frames in the sim (NGX preferably), what processor do you have?

Can I take out a gigabyte motherboard and AAMD processor and put in a Asus motherboard and Intel processor, and still have the computer work like new?

If not, what can I use to get the high fames we all dream about in FSX?

Complex? Yes. But thank you.

I'm not familiar with the AMD processors but here is a link to CPU's compatible with your Motherboard - http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Gigabyte/GA-78LMT-USB3(rev._4.1).html .

Since you have an ATX compatible case, you can remove the motherboard and replace it with an Intel motherboard and cpu. If you are going that far though, I would leave the AMD system as is and use it as a second or sell it. The video card can be moved over to the Intel system though. ATX cases are relatively cheap (around $100).

You should be able to get decent fps in your current system. It ranks just below my old Sandy Bridge i7 2600K - http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+FX-8320+Eight-Core. You have to be careful with your sliders though and I would recommend the settings as shown in the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide and the NVidiaInspector settings too. I have the i7 4770K with the GTX 780 and get plus 80 fps with the PMDG 737NGX and the PMDG 777. I also have the ASUS Z87 Deluxe Motherboard which is high end. I use no tweaks in the FSX.cfg which I think do more harm than good. I do have LOD_Radius set to 6.5 and my Texture_Max_Load set to 2048 (HD) but those are the only tweaks. If I turn on my commercial weather program, ASN, fps will drop say after an hour flight, especially if the weather is nasty, but they stay in the 20's and occasionally will go higher depending on the scenery being rendered. I don't see any solution to make this any better. I have tried the FSX Fiber Accelerator but I use photoscenery exclusively and I see more blurries when using that program so have shut it off for now. FSX Fiber Accelerator may help you though with your problem. It's discussed in the FSX Forum.

Thank you so much Jim! You read my mind on buying a new motherboard, I went out and wound out finding an ASUS GR Z87 with an Intel i7 4790K processor bundle. I will get that and sell my current motherboard and processor.

I emailed a good friend who is good with computers and said there might be a slight chance of compatibility issues with my memory. I don't know if that is something else I should look into for not worry about at all.

I'm not sure what memory you have but there are a lot of memory compatibility tools on the Internet.  Don't forget a CPU cooler and a good case with fans built in.
