Big difference in wind direction.

This is a snapshot of ASN and PFPX wind differences. i only just made a flight to see the wind and speed differences and they never match up. why is this?

I don't know what your picture is supposed to be...I just see a desktop.  :)

PFPX uses a different interpolation algorithm than ASN does.

ASN has a higher interpolation resolution wind plot, every 2x2 Lat/Lon (~120nm).

I don't know what algorithm PFPX uses to obtain winds at nav fixes, but it's not the same as ASNs thus the differences.

I use PFPX and on the worst deviation in time I've ever encountered over the course of a full flight of near 420 minutes (7 hours) is -8 minutes total difference than flight planned time (2% difference).  Acceptable in my books.

In real life, nothing is bang on...if your flight plan winds are bang on in the flight, then your simulation isn't realistic!!  There are many instances in real life where forecast winds are not what was expected and a flight had to divert.  That's why flight plans have a fuel buffer...for unforeseen circumstances, which includes winds that are not as forecast.

IMHO, the differences in PFPX and ASN adds to the realism of the simulation in a dynamic atmosphere.

i usually only see minor differences in the winds between simbrief and ASN (and what's in the sim) by just a couple degrees or knots. i think i read somewhare that there might be a way to import ASN's info into pfpx instead of using their built in weather which might bring them even closer in agreement, although i don't have pfpx so i'm not sure.

in this example you can see that they all line up fairly close. the screenshot was taken at rupax and you can see there is very close agreement:

ASN predicted = 261/42

Simbrief predicted = 264/48

in sim = 258/42

not bad! i have similar results to devin where my fuel plan usually matches the actual usage within a few percent.

Yeh i read somewhere ASN uses a more precise interpolation than PFPX.

I have PFPX weather coupled with ASN. I find some flights with the wind and speed not far off.

End of the day PFPX is a flight planner, best FP IMHO :) and ASN a weather engine. I would be lost without them.

Sorry guys I sent the wrong Dropbox link :(
