Is FS2006 going to be any better?

Recommended Posts

Guest Dakota

I am really enjoying FS2004 now with FSGenesis mesh, Flight 1 Ultimate terrain, FScene textures, etc, etc. With all my add-ons, it looks great and seems very immersive for me when I fly now. Don't really know how FS2006 is going to be any better?

At first I was going to say something about there being another FS2006 thread, then I was going to not say anything. Now I thought I'd bring this up since there is another FS2006 thread. Anyway, about 200 FS2006 threads ago, which would be sometime last month, and I'm not going to use anybody's name, because I can't remember who said it, but I have an idea, and I think it was a moderator said that on April ?th we'd get an official announcement about it. Does anyone remember that?Jeff

Fs2004 could easily be improved. Just by using DirectX9 technology it could be made far better looking, especially where lighting is concerned (night time is definitely one of the weakest spots of fs graphics), not to mention huge potential for improvement in flight modelling, weather and ATC.However I'm enjoying fs2004 myself, and feel no particular hurry to get a new version, because everything is working nicely on my setup at the moment.-

The next version of flightsim will most likely have enhanced and additional features but will also need a more advanced computer to run it lol, then when this edition is out everyone will be looking for FS2008 and so the rollercoaster goes on and on...:)

How many nearly identical statements we have seen here in the last 3 months? I wish Microsoft would announce a 1 year delay in release of FS2006 so most folks like that would return to their caves ...:-violinMichael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2

Firstly to whover said its only a $50 game? wrong on two counts.FS9 is a multi million dollar game. Yes the unit price maybe $50 but its earning capacity runs into millions so "its only a $50 game falls rather flat and a lame excuse. With some addons almost equalling the $50 purchase price I am sure if everyone totted up all their addons scenery, aircraft, utilities mesh etc, the FS9 they see probably amounts to $100s if not 1000s of dollars to take it to the level they see.Could it be better? I have to say yes! smooth framerates and performance and a fully dynamic living weather for starters the abolishment of the ridiculous 2d / VC panel situation is just a taste of where it could be better. When the new version comes out we will get the same postings about the next version but who would go back to FS95 which was raved about in its day. Some people are easely satisfied but thats never been my style. As the saying goes "its only by pushing the limits that you find what lies beyond" thank god thats a human trait which is alive amongst FS developers.Peter

Hi John,in my eyes, MSFS is only a solid base for another developers making add-on's for it (payware or freeware, it doesn't matter). Firstly we must thank Microsoft that they develop this flightsim, it probably costs tons of money and allows us to enjoy fantastic add-on's for it. I don't doubt the forthcoming version of MSFS actually WILL BE better than FS2004. There wasn't IMHO a better previous version than a latter version in the MSFS history. I'm looking forward to FS10 as it will probably make possible for developers to make even better addon's than those you named. Would you be happy if MS stopped the development? I don't think so. I read somewhere that they hired some DX9 specialists and that makes me think that they plan to completely rework the engine to today's gfx standards. If it so, I must say WOW, THANK YOU MICROSOFT!!! But right now I focus on my FS2004 and the addon's I use with it. Sorry, posts about "FS2006" are becoming somewhat tiring...

All they have to do is upgrade the engine to Dx9 and improve the interfaces to things like AI traffic and ATC, and make the aircraft systems more flexible. On the graphics front, I think we're in luck, because one of the guys on the FS graphics programming team literally wrote a book on programming Dx9 shader effects!! Fingers crossed!!

Hi all > Just a query but I read a romour somewhere that MS was talking with Genesis about selling the rights to make FS itself? Now as much as we all hate microsoft (computer wiz's that we are) I would rather have Microsoft continue this brilliant Simulator into the distance future! What you think guys? n girls not to be sexist!TGPMaking FS Installments Easier!http://www.tallguypete.tk

I have it from reliable sources (people posting their insider information right in these forums) that FS2006 will have no aircraft, no scenery, no navdata, and no weather. As all that is provided in much greater quality than Microsoft can provide by 3rd parties Microsoft decided it's not worth the trouble to create it.Instead they have created an entirely new graphics engine, a new flight dynamics engine, and a completely new plugin system. This provides a lot better fps (1000fps on a 400MHz P2 with 32MB RAM has been reported) and makes far more realism possible for the minor cost of making all existing addons incompatible.Microsoft is confident that addon creators will be up to the challenge of releasing enough addons to fill the world before people notice anything is missing.

>Firstly to whover said its only a $50 game? wrong on two>counts. That was me, Peter. I do have a name - it's David :-)>FS9 is a multi million dollar game. Yes the unit price maybe>$50 but its earning capacity runs into millions so "its only a>$50 game falls rather flat and a lame excuse. As you say, however you look at the money side it is still a game.>With some addons almost equalling the $50 purchase price I am>sure if everyone totted up all their addons scenery, aircraft,>utilities mesh etc, the FS9 they see probably amounts to $100s>if not 1000s of dollars to take it to the level they see.If MS had developed FS9 to the level we see with the addons that are on the market then they would have had to charge hundreds of dollars for the product themselves. One way or another there is a cost to this level of realism and we have to realise that.>Could it be better? I have to say yes! smooth framerates and>performance and a fully dynamic living weather for starters>the abolishment of the ridiculous 2d / VC panel situation is>just a taste of where it could be better.FS9 is perfectly smooth for me as well as a lot of other people. It depends on how the hardware is tuned as well as the hardware itself. I don't see how MS can improve on smoothness for people who don't have the equipment to achieve this in the first place. As for the 2D/VC panel situation this is a matter of taste - some like both, some don't. At least MS give us the choice.>When the new version comes out we will get the same postings>about the next version but who would go back to FS95 which was>raved about in its day.Absolutely :D Which proves the point that no matter how good FS10 may be the old battle lines will be drawn up once again and MS will be criticised for failing to deliver when they had the chance.>Some people are easely satisfied but thats never been my>style. As the saying goes "its only by pushing the limits that>you find what lies beyond" thank god thats a human trait which>is alive amongst FS developers. So let us be grateful to MS for what they do for us. For those who are easily pleased they provide the opportunity to try something they may never be able to achieve in real life. For those who want to push the envelope further MS provide us with a fantastic product which can be built upon.Let us thank Microsoft instead of kicking their arses.David
