10% FPS increase for free?

Featured Replies

Edit: Scratch all this. Someone reported that in LMs forums that it causes stutters.

I noticed something interesting while playing with processor affinity.

My configuration is 4700MQ/755M SLI/16GB. I have a no affinity settings in my cfg and SLI is set to AFR2 in Nvidia control panel.

Scenario: On Runway at Halifax/Alaska with Carenado B1900D, inside VC

Start P3D.

Let it come up and stabilize.

FPS - 24-25

Open Task manager. You will notice that CPU (or core) 0 is almost 100% and rest doing little bit.

Now change affinity of Prepar3d.exe inside Task Manager to Core 2,4,6.

FPS 26-28 ~ up 10%

Also notice that the assigned cores are being used equally, instead of just one core being used 100%.

Repeat same steps parked at UUEE/Moscow with CLS 747, inside VC

FPS goes from 26-27 to FPS 28-30 ~ up 10%

Instead of setting to Core 2,4,6, you can set to anything else, I get the same results. So you can try to first set the affinity a single core, and once more to all cores.

So looks like just by changing affinity in Task Manager, which forces P3D not to consume one core at 100%, there is a 10% FPS to be gained.

Note: I have the same topic in LM's support forum.
