FSX reinstall nightmare

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has come across the following problem. I decided to reintsall FSX Deluxe on my e drive (where it normally lives). Unfortunately no amount of persuasion will work. The installation disk hangs near the beginning at the point where it says 'Removing applications.....'

Ive tried the following (as recommended here and on various other sites):

1) Renaming C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield to Installshied1 so Windows 8 builds another.

2) Changing compatibility mode on the Installshield IDriver, IDriver2 and IDriverT to Windows 8. Also ran them as Administrator.

3) Attempted installation with UAC switched off.

4) Attempted installation under 'superuser' accounts as described here:

5) Installation after clean boot. No go.

Im trying to avoid a reinstall of Windows 8.1.

P3D 2.4 reinstall worked okay so may give up with FSX and just wait for PMDG releases for P3D.

Sorted. Just have to wait for 'Removing applications to continue. Very slow.

Did you do all of the tweaks first and then it was slow and eventually worked?  How long did it hang on "removing applications"?

It could be because you're running out of space on C: drive where Windows needs to create and swap temporary files into.

Should always keep at least 1.5 the amount of installed RAM free hard drive space.
