In the Carenado C340, how do I get information from the GPS to guide auto pilot, instead of VOR freq.

 

And is it similar or different in other planes, can most* planes that have a NAV option in auto pilot to fly a GPS route?

I don't have it, but try pressing the CDI button on the GPS until the unit says GPS instead of VLOC.  VLOC is for following the NAV.
