April 15, 200521 yr Wanting to expand my horizons and increase the realism of FS2004... to that end, I'm planning to use the ProjectAI uninstall kits to get rid of the default commercial and GA traffic. I was planning to replace the commerical traffic with PAI commercial, cargo, and military traffic files, but AFAIK, there are really no PAI GA files...How about using the program called "GA Traffic"? Or... will this interfere with the PAI commercial files? Does anyone run this combo, and if so, how does it work?Any other suggestions?
April 15, 200521 yr There are no conflicts with them. You will want to go through the list of aircraft in GA-Traffic (it uses any installed aircraft on your computer) to make sure airliners, and regional airlines are not in there or any other aircraft that you think would not be a realistic thing to have as randomized GA traffic. You also want to make sure none of your high polygon models are in that list unless you make their occurance rare or they utilize LODs to reduce polygons as they get further away from your point-of-view. They'll slow the sim down otherwise.----------------------------------------------------------------John MorganReal World: KGEG, UND Aerospace Spokane Satillite, Private ASEL 141.2 hrs, 314 landings, 46 inst. apprs.Virtual: MSFS 2004"There is a feeling about an airport that no other piece of ground can have. April 15, 200521 yr So it sounds like GA Traffic has some (large) commercial planes, and PAI has some (small) GA planes. What do you mean that GA traffic uses "installed aircraft on my computer"? Does this mean that if I load the PAI planes, that GA Traffic will try to use these? Seems like this would cause a conflict with the PAI flight schedules...
April 15, 200521 yr Author GA Traffic generator comes with NO aircraft, it uses the ones you have in your aircraft folder based on weight as to what is GA and not. There are a bunch of GA AI models here at AVSIM in he library, best thing to do is install as many as you can, then when you get a good mix installed, move all aircraft except those out of the aircraft folder, run the program and it will create a traffic BGL just for the GA that are in the aircraft folder, then add your flyable aircraft back and you are good to go.If you install the PAI aircraft it will be mostly commercial and some military and as long as you have AFCADS installed with lots of parking, you should see both GA and PAI aircraft at the airports.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
April 17, 200521 yr Is the new .bgl traffice file you refer to the default file that is overwritten with new flight plans from all of the new planes? On another note...Are Aardvark planes any better that PAI? Will I take a framerate hit with PAI that I wont get with Aardvark?
April 17, 200521 yr >Is the new .bgl traffice file you refer to the default file>that is overwritten with new flight plans from all of the new>planes? No, FS9 allows multiple traffic files. GA-Traffic will generate its own.>Are Aardvark planes any better that PAI? Will I take a>framerate hit with PAI that I wont get with Aardvark? That's the general consensus, though lots of people use PAI happily. One final note: GA-Traffic initially determines which planes are GA based on weight. You can set this weight up or down in the options. After the program has eliminated all the planes that are too heavy, you can go in and eliminate more, or just set them not to show up very often.
April 17, 200521 yr GA-Traffic will indeed initially consider some of the smaller PAI planes to be GA, such as the B1900 for example. All you need to do is deselect those in the GA-Traffic program.I suggest you DELETE/RENAME your traffic030528.bgl file. PAI and GA-Traffic will both create their own files and with both programs in use, there's no need for ANY of the default traffic. -
April 17, 200521 yr I need some more help...What is the point of the PAI default uninstallers if I only have to get rid of the default bgl traffic file? What elese are these uninstallers getting rid of?After reading around, it sound like this is what I should do:1) Install/update EVP to make sure any planes I do add as AI get correctly referred to by the ATC.2) Use the PAI uninstallers to get rid of default Commercial and GA traffic.3) Download as many AI Aardvark planes and GA planes from the library as I can with the understanding that the AI Aardvark planes aren't "painted" and require separate downloads/installations of those to make them "look right". I'm not sure how easy it is to link the right paint to the right model...4) Download and install AFCADS for various airports so that more AI aircraft can be parked at the right gates for a more realistic flying environment at the airports. I'm not sure how AFCADS are installed...5) Download and install flightplans for various Commercial airlines (or is it per airport?)... So that the AI planes follow logical real world routes as they go from airport to airport. Not sure how these are installed either...6) Use Traffic Tools to help with steps 3, 4, and 5.Can you guys weigh in on each of the above? I'm just trying to get the best experience and trade as few frames as possible in the process. Does the plan above sound right? Can you help me fill in the details?THANKS!
April 17, 200521 yr 1. And it also makes the controllers talk faster and speeds up traffic movement.2. To remove both commercial and GA, just delete (or move) the defaul taffic bgl file.3. If you start with PIA, it is simpler.4. ALL of my AFCADs are in Addon sceneryScenery. This makes troubleshooting a bad file easier.5. I use PIA and it installer the planes and FPs automatically.6. Yes.I hope that this is helpful to you. R-
April 17, 200521 yr Yes, helpful... but the AI Aardvark planes are of interest to me because of their reputation for being framerate friendly... I don't want the framerates to drop on account of the new traffic...
April 17, 200521 yr I have not noticed any great FR hit with PAI and I'm running a 2.0 Ghz Celeron. I assumed that PAI was eating a few frames but tried approahes with and without PAI traffic and didn't notice much differece. AEU textures and Scenery density made the most difference on final approach. R-
April 18, 200521 yr They're going to drop despite which AI traffic you select to populate your skes. Adding any extra models is going do have a drop in frames. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
April 19, 200521 yr Yes, in general, I'd assume that the more 3D objects are being processed, the slower my framerates will be. My question is with regards to "relative" performance of each AI option when compared to the alternatives. Ideally, I'd love for someone to weigh in here with at least some sort of qualitative statement - even better is a quantitative statement. My dilemna is this: only the payware options seem easy, although PAI doesn't seem too bad. AIAardvark appears to have the least taxing AI models but making it work seems "taxing". I would take a (relative) framerate hit of maybe 5% to save myself the hassle and time of trying to get the AIArdvark planes working... I just wish there was a step by step guide avaialble somwhere that could help me make my quest for good traffic a reality. Right now I feel lost amidst the options and their complexity/framerate tradeoffs. If UT was a framerate friendly as the AIAardvark planes, I'd go that route. Anyone?
April 19, 200521 yr Yo C-man,You're making this too difficult! Why not DL the PAI installer and the package for your favorite ailine, then go to the busiest airport for that airline and check it out? That's what I did. I DLed SWA and then watched Dallas Love Field. Next I added AA and went to KDFW. By the time I had observed Delta flying in and out of KATL and KSLC, I was hooked. Its all free, after all, and installation is a snap.If you have the registered version of FSUIPC, then you can set up a hotkey to toggle the traffic on and off. Its quick and easy then to check your FR hit. R-
April 19, 200521 yr Author I agree, you are making to much out of this, just try it out and see what works for you, that is what most of us have done, it's easy to redo any of it if it isn't to your liking. yes, the aardvark aircraft are a tad nicer looking and they will perform a little better, but there is no easy way to swap them out or add, it takes time and if you don't know the ins and outs of AI, you are better off getting UT as many of us have, or just use the PAI installers, they are nearly the same aircaft as UT uses from what i understand.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
