Flight plan gets lost in saved flights

Featured Replies

I don't know if this is unique to P3D or not but the problem is that after saving a flight which already has a flight plan loaded, next time I resume the flight the flight plan would be lost.

Is there a way to save a flight while also having the loaded flight plan saved too? If not is there a way that after resuming the saved flight the flight plan can be reloaded without resetting the flight back to the starting point?

When you load a flight plan you always get the option to move your plane to the start position, which is the default choice. Simply choose not to do so and you should be good to go!

Start P3D and load a flight that has a flight plan.

Every time I now save a new situation I give the flight a new name and the original flight plan is saved with it.

The next time I start P3D I can select either of the flights (old or new situation name) and the same flight plan will be in either flight I choose to load.

You can have one flight plan named Master plan and it can be associated (automatically) loaded with different saved flights.

Two different aircraft (saved situation flights) could load the same flight plan Master flight plan.

Cessna KDTW KJFK

Baron KDTW KJFK

So, for example:

You have a Cessna at KDTW (situation)

You make a flight plan and name it Master

You save this flight (named) Cessna KDTW KJFK

Now you taxi the Cessna to the runway.

Now you save the new Flight situation named : Cessna KDTW KJFK runway 4R

The Master plan will be automatically Associated with this flight.

Now to change aircraft to a Baron.

Now you save the new Flight situation named : Baron KDTW KJFK runway 4R

The Master plan will be automatically Associated with this flight.

Now lets say we had previously save a plan with a different routing from KDTW to KJFK called OLD KDTW KJFK

We could now load that plan and re-save the current flight with a new name.

How to keep track of all this ... use the comments section when saving the flight situation:

Baron KDTW KJFK 4R fuel XXX ready for takeoff using OLD KDTW KJFK flight plan.
