X-Plane VR-focused updates
Have to admit: this sounds like a dream for MSFS 2024 VR too. Very exciting features they're developing, especially the Mixed VR showing your own hands in VR and ".. gesture-aware responses, allowing you to grab, pinch, and rotate cockpit controls with precision. We also have improved cockpit manipulation for controllers and hands." X-Plane 12.4.3 Early Preview | Let’s talk VR! https://www.x-plane.com/2026/04/x-plane-12-4-3-early-preview-lets-talk-vr/

Sim update 5 beta: vr settings are not persistent
FlyIce replied to turbomax's topic in Virtual Reality (VR) for Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020/2024)kind of unrelated but I really don't understand why there seems to be no option to SAVE the settings. Every time I make adjustments, I risk of no way to restore the settings if I accidently mess up.

90 fps = too much fps in VR - I need a slower GPU
FlyIce replied to turbomax's topic in Virtual Reality (VR) for Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020/2024)With bad weather 1/2SM visibility, yeah I routinely get over 60fps too. One of the benefits of flying hardcore IFR: free extra fps... But seriously, I treat MSFS2024 as a serious IFR practicing/training tool and cannot overstate how much it helps my real IFR flights. A big plus is SimBrief EFB integration - filing IFR within 2024 to use SayIntentions is so smooth and nice.

nvidia smooth motion for vr
Guess I wasn't so lucky. I installed latest Nvidia app and driver, and immediately MSFS 2024 crashed when starting up. After many tries, eventually I had to uninstall and reinstall MSFS2024 to make it work again. I can now really appreciate that 2024 remembers all my settings so not too much work to reinstall. I think it's probably due to my 2024 was in developer mode that messed up with the new driver? Anyway, I'm now on latest DLSS and presets plus smooth motion ON, but honestly I don't see any obvious differences based on OXR toolkit FPS counter. Alt-Z + Alt-R shows FPS N/A, don't know why. By all means, glad you guys got some great results. I also updated the Pimax Play and firmware to the latest when installing Nvidia driver, but guess that shouldn't be the reason 2024 crashed.

Just Ordered New Pimax Crystal Light
Good point about chart clarity in Quest 3. Instrument gauges should be fine in Q3 if I remember correctly. Does Dream Air have color high resolution passthrough as Quest 3? Quest 3 passthrough is amazing considering its price point.

Just Ordered New Pimax Crystal Light
I'm actually considering to give my Quest 3 another try for its mixed reality. For instrument flight practicing, being able to use MR window to see and operate my hardware controls would be great. The image quality is less important as I'll be in the clouds the "soup" most of the time.

No FPS display in VR in Developer mode
I saw you also enabled QuadView. Does it actually work with MSFS? I thought with FFR enabled in MSFS, QuadView in Pimax should be off?

No FPS display in VR in Developer mode
I'm on v1.43 and but I just can't find this utility tool anywhere in the menu, maybe I missed sth. As to the FOV adjustment, it's too limited. OXRToolkit is a lot more comprehensive and versatile.

Winds in MSFS 2024
MSFS 2024 could be modeling the surface wind based on 30kts at 3000 ft. If this is the case, it might be correct, as in general wind slows down when near ground due to friction.

No FPS display in VR in Developer mode
Well, it's against my principle that I should use minimal addons/extra layers of software/tweaks/etc. I was traumatized by the countless hours I spent on tweaking FSX/P3D/X-Plane, and want to have a fresh start with MSFS to spend max amount time flying, not tweaking...

No FPS display in VR in Developer mode
Yes, I couldn't believe how hard I had to try to see the difference between FFR on and off. So FOV crop + FFR really help substantially for VR.
-
No FPS display in VR in Developer mode
Yes. But to be fair, the FOV crop is nearly impossible to notice in VR, but it reduces the total pixels for 5090 to push by probably ~ 30%. I turned crop off last night and I was convinced again that cropping FOV really has no downside as far as I could see.

The EFB pad in VR is so close to be perfect ...
Don't know if anyone noticed too: after SU4, the screen resolution of EFB at LARGE and MEDIUM screen size settings are actually reduced in VR. Now the chart display are back to sth similar to SMALL settings in SU3. It's ok, but high resolution chart display in VR was quite a treat.

No FPS display in VR in Developer mode
Thanks! I sheepishly re-activated the OXR Toolkit since its FOV crop gives me about another 5-10fps. Plus FFR, now I'm average 60fps when in and out the clouds flying Bonanza. My very first experience of 60fps in VR, can't complain.. BUT, isn't this also the perfect time to turn back on the ULTRA clouds to eat the extra 10fps I just gained ... 😀

No FPS display in VR in Developer mode
I decided to deactivate OXR Toolkit and was curious to see what the FPS I got. Somehow the FPS display in Dev mode no longer show up in VR. Anyone has the similar problem? It must be due to SU4, I guess. Any other ways to display fps in VR? Pimax supposedly has a tool for this but I couldn't figure it where it is and whether it works for MSFS.

Delayed rendering when switching views since SU4
I wonder there is an easy fix from Asobo: instead of showing delayed rendering, Asobo could delay the transition by a fraction of second to allow the pre-rendering of the new scene, then switch over.
-
So?? SU4 and VR. Is it all that and a bag of chips for you?
FlyIce replied to odourboy's topic in Virtual Reality (VR) for Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020/2024)I did notice the ground texture was quite blurry last night, which is not sth I noticed prior to SU4. Hopefully this is just due to MSFS servers are jammed due to heavy traffic for SU4, and things will improve after the peak.

So?? SU4 and VR. Is it all that and a bag of chips for you?
FlyIce replied to odourboy's topic in Virtual Reality (VR) for Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020/2024)My first impression of SU4 is not very positive either. For whatever reason, I probably lost a few fps and time to time I got a few jittering/stuttering. No idea why. Seems getting better after I took the same flight a few times, maybe the cache file was being cleared / refilled? Night lighting seems to be nicer. Fixed foveate rendering definitely works now, helped me to gain back lost fps and I could barely tell any difference in image quality. Overall, no too much to say about SU3 -> SU4 in VR, at least for my VR set up. Maybe b/c I exclusively fly GA airplanes, and those fly big airliners may benefit more?

MSFS 2024 Surprise Hint Surfaced
So true. I was a fanatic of X-Plane before MSFS2020. I was crazy about OrthoXP and downloaded many TBs of satellite images. The results were addictive at the time (6 years ago?), but in practice impossible to sustain and keep improving. Such a relieve that MSFS came out blue and ended all my hassles of self-managing satellite images, and MSFS has such a light year better graphic engine.
-
Apparently you have SU4
Agree. One way I deal with it is to watch these videos at at least 1.5x speed, sometimes 1.75x - 2x speed. Still, I have to be very selective.

MS Flight Sim on a $5000 computer
Time to time I'm thinking about a gaming laptop to fly MSFS anywhere I go. But in reality, no gaming laptop is powerful enough to drive VR as I want. Even there is one, it will definitely weight > 10 lbs (including power adapter), not sth I want to lug around. My current laptop for work is a 3lbs ultrathin LG Gram 17 with 17 inch screen. I even tried MSFS on it... I can only say that it's my very first time seeing MSFS 2024 at its lowest setting and it is actually surprisingly decent looking, still far better than FSX.

Doing RNAV App the old (80s.. 90s) way :-)
Beautiful video. Definitely want to find time to give it a try. I wonder if anyone can pull this off without suing AP 😀

MS Flight Sim on a $5000 computer
It's both sad and true that for today's highend PC, $5000 is almost a minimum. 5090 alone would cost more than half of it. RAM price is out of roof and consumer video cards may become even more scarce and expensive since AI is sucking all the chips into its blackhole. I feel very lucky that I don't have to upgrade my current PC for next few years. Of course, who knows how demanding MSFS 2028 is going to be. Hopefully by that time AI has cooled down and we're looking at the same price tag of $5000 PC not $9000.

MSFS 2024 Surprise Hint Surfaced
I personally think MSFS 2024 is still on the right track. It provides the most import and the hardest core of simulation: the living world. I'm for one very happy with its live and dynamic weather. Default aircraft are not perfect, but avionics in general are in great shape. As long as 2024 enables 3rd party developers to make "study level" / serious airplanes I'm happy. I recently bought BlackSquare Bonanza and was amazed by its all around quality. With 2024, I have never felt my sim flights are so close to my flights IRL. I want to thank Microsoft to bring us such a technology wonder and flight simmers wet dream to reality.
