I will guess that they are mouse touch pads. The 777 has these for interaction with the flight management and checklist systems on the plane. They are really cool. Flying the 777 sim in Denver, you can scroll and complete checklists on the lower display, as well as select and approve systems functions. No Doom III or Half Life II though, at least, not that they showed us :)

Don't think that Boeing is TOO worried.... Suggest you check out the attached site which tells you how many orders for aircraft have been obtained by Airbus and Boeing so far this year.Also, I understand that more than 50% of the engines for the A380 will be coming from General Electric not Rolls Royce.http://www.justplanes.comRegardsMartiro
