April 27, 200521 yr I wonder if there's someone who could tell me what is significantly new for the avionics used in the A380...Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. Respice, lector: In nihil ab nihilo quam cito recidimus.
April 27, 200521 yr Hi,I was only able to have a brief impression of the cockpit on TV this morning before I had to go to work. Visually, it seemed very close to the other Airbus panel layouts. It looked like the standby instruments weren

April 27, 200521 yr I liked the Rolls Royce dudes answer to a question a reporter asked him:"So you must be very proud that your engines are on that plane, what do you expect to hear as this flight-test progresses?""Nothing - because the engines will perform flawlessly"
April 27, 200521 yr Hello All, I haven't seen the cockpit scenes yet, 380 use a yoke or joystick like other Airbus's? Sorry darned airliner should have yoke! Must be the 'old' pilot in me. NOT!! with notepad...The 380, did retract the landing gear....did use the autopilot......used the MCDUs.....you can see the flight videos at AIRBUS site.I leave you the picture of the cockpit and the inovations of it..
April 27, 200521 yr The small thottles look funny in such a big aircraft. It seems they have made some advances compared to the smaller buses.-
April 27, 200521 yr Hello All, Well, don't see any yoke, guess that leaves me out from every buying one LOL. Either the real thing, (which I would have to get a million year loan from God), or the 'whenever offered' sim version by whomever.Best,Clayhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpgClayton T. April 27, 200521 yr One of AB's most important selling point is ease of transition from one AB to another because of common cockpit layout. I doubt there will be significant changes in the flight instrumentation from previous Airbus airplanes for this reason. Thus, very likely there is no yoke as this would be a significant change from other models. This is one area where it has taken Boeing a long time to catch up.
April 27, 200521 yr Well one of the goals from a cockpit design standpoint from Airbus is that they wanted the cockpit to explore the latest and greatest in avionics but also have them current enough to provide an easy transition for current Bus pilots.
April 27, 200521 yr I have to say the cockpit looks nice, but I think the airplane is uglyit looks a little like that pregnant guppy airplane some time ago. Sitting in the upper rows looks like you would be sitting up in a attic. The 747 is much better looking LOL. Makes me wonder if it is too big, but I am sure they are proud of it, maybe I will learn to like it. Ken
April 27, 200521 yr No one has mentioned the Pitt Bull sitting at the rear of the flight deck. The Pilot and Copilots job as I understand it is to keep the dog fed and watered. The Dogs job is to bite the pilot if he touches any of the controls.
April 27, 200521 yr Sorry, my bad, thought you meant the steering tillers. The things next to the throttle is/are the track ball control feature of the KCCU. Its similar to the CCD in the B777's, allowing the pilots to navigate and scroll around the mfd, and possibly the other screens Alaister Kay
April 28, 200521 yr >> What are those oval shaped things by either sides of the>throttles?? Futuristic cup-holders? ;-) Maybe that's why Boeing are worried.... :-)
