April 28, 200521 yr Hi I'm new here. Picked up the Flightsim gaming again and getting the hang of it. I'm not comletely new to the game, the first time I played it a plane consisted of thin white lines, so that was ages ago. Apparently a few things have changed. After killing myself and my passengers on several occasions I now usually manage to land on the runway, so that is an improvement I think. When I get to the ground in one piece I have a funny problem. After I contact ground and ask for permission to taxi somewhere (gates, parking) I turn on progressive taxi as I tend to get lost on larger airports (and I'm too lazy to find the map) the taxi line often is leading back to the start of the runway behind me. This happens even if I touch down at the right spot and contact ground immediately. Is this a bug or am I the bug?Jaap
April 28, 200521 yr In addition to Ken's question regarding AFCADS, you might also be turning off the runway in the wrong direction prior to getting your ground taxi instructions. I have done this more times than I care to admit. :)
April 28, 200521 yr tom, do you have the lds? I think it would be fun if some members here at avsim to gather online for a nice flight. I think that would be enjoyable. Id love to beable to fly with you some day.. :-jumpy:-wave Chase Barnett
April 28, 200521 yr How does one know which side of the runway to turn off? Is it based on each airport or based on where you plan to park?
April 29, 200521 yr You turn for each airport in the direction you wish to park. If you download the correct free AFCAD for your FS version, you can look up your airport and see a diagram of the layout. Version 1.x is for FS2K2 and version 2 for FS9.AFCADs for FS9 can contain airline parking codes and parking area type (pax, freight, military, GA). There are no airline codes (AFAIK) in the default FS9 afcads nor in the Ultimate Traffic 2 provided ones. Some freeware afcads with parking codes are available from various download sites as well as www.projectai.com. Many freeware and payware airport sceneries include updated afcad files as well.Either way, using afcad prior to FS can give you the layout of your departure and destination airports. You can also use it to add gates and other airport devices as well as define runway and gate properties. Afcad allows you to print the airport diagram and you can turn on various identifications as well but if it is a large airport the labels can get crowded. You can also zoom the screen image and change the center viewpoint if needed. There is an option if you have a full FSUIPC to run FS at the same time, ususally in an overhead view, and lock the location of your plane displayed in AFCAD to where it is on your airport.Whether or not you intend to edit the airport characteristics it is a great utility to gather airport information including navaid info.
April 29, 200521 yr The pink progressive taxi lines have slight arrows in the direction you are supposed to go...MK Mark Keith
April 29, 200521 yr >What airport? Maybe you have an AFCAD for this airport that>is messed up?It is the EHAM (Amsterdam Schiphol) but also several other airports. The PT will get me there, but it does not feel quite right to make a U-turn on the runway, for some reason I don't believe this is common practice.. (-: I will have a look this AFCAD business, it seems to be important. I have always used what was standard included in either FS9 or scenery. Thanks for the repliesJaap
