April 30, 200521 yr It looks ok, but is not even close to the resolution of FSGenesis Mesh. Global is only (76m resolution WORLDWIDE).... Check the pictures in http://fsgenesis.net users have posted of the scenery in their local areas. Justin has a lot of FREE 76m Mesh available... His varies depending upon the importance of the areas 38m in flat aeas like the Great Plains, where there are only rolling hills. Accurate altitudes within 10m... in the Hawaiian Islands, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Yellowstone & Grand Tetons, Oak Creek Canyon in Sedona is 9m (LOD 12) and other national parks. There are 52 National Parks in the US.. To improve frame rates MS reduced resolution from 2002, to I believe 19m in 2004... But if they ever raise it again, Justins scenery will automatically improve, without changing anything.
April 30, 200521 yr But then:How can the mesh affect smaller installations likeairport scenery etc?I have "Norway" airports V.8 which is an awesome addon (and free)for those who fly in Norway and also if you live there its even better, but in addition to that i also have "norway roads" and some smaller scenery of my hometown Stavanger, which is a couple of buildings around the town that are easily recognizable and greatfor VFR flying.so,how would a norway mesh pack affect all theese smaller scenery addons?for instance.. would it ruin the airport scenerys or the roads or the buildings in Stavanger? Thanks again for helping out guys:-wave Yngve Yngve GiljebrekkeENZV NSB
May 1, 200521 yr It depends on the terrain around the airfield, and how accurate what you have now may be. If it is all flat, wouldnt make much difference. There is a field I fly into in Paradise, CA, and have been there, as a friend owned it a few years back. Landing and taking off, is much like a carrier, except the strip is longer...When taking off, you can only go west, as the eastern end is obstructed by a quick rise in elevation, and trees over 30-50 tall. Headed west, the land drops off suddenly right at the end of the strip, no way you can "abort" a takeoff, as the strip is not very long. (Will have to go there again in the FS, been several years since Ive made a flight there.) Landing, you'd better not come in too low, as if you have to abort, you better begin your turn quite a ways out.In the FS, there is no "cliff" at the end of the runway, and you actually can take off or land headed on the eastern end. Not very realistic. With the addon mesh, it corrects the surrounding elevations to within 10meters... So it is much more realistic. Same way with Apple Valley, CA, and Big Bear City, surrounded by mountains. My best friend lives in site of the former, so am there often. Has two runways, one N/S the other E/W the latter, is more of a challange. Big Bear you land coming in over a Mountain, cross the lake, or over a Mountain, with a 9000' elevation. The field is about 6000', and the air is thin. Almost every year some pilot not accustomed to the altitude, crashes on take off because he is too overloaded. Many times if you have PAX, you cant take off with a full load of fuel, or you are not going to make it.Bob
May 1, 200521 yr Hello Yngve,I think you might be confused by the difference between just plain mesh and scenery (which includes mesh but also has textures and landclass). Lago, Megascenery and Justflight make not JUST mesh but sceneries (I think) so their sceneries include specific textures, buildings, roads etc... whereas the FSGENESIS mesh mentioned here is JUST the altitudes (land elevations with high accuracy) without any textures or landclass. FSGENESIS uses the default FS2004 textures for the colours of the mountains, forests, etc... which you will see if you use it.John I love flying my "iddy biddy Jumbo" CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, socket 775/3GHz/1333MHz bus/6MB cache MOBO: Asus P5E3 Deluxe WiFi-AP@n/Intel X38 chipset RAM: 4GB Kingston HyperX 1333MHz. rated 7-7-7-20, matched pair (2 x 2GB) GRAPHICS: Sapphire Radeon 5770HD 1GB (w/ fan) MONITOR: Samsung 24", 2494HM LCD wide-screen 1920x1080 SOUND: SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS HARD DRIVES: 1xWestern Digital WD1600JD SATA 160GB (primary/Windows XP and system boot drive) 1xWestern Digital WD3200AAJS SATA2 320GB (secondary/Flight Simulator 2004 running off WinXP Pro 32-bit, games video editing drive) 1xWestern Digital 500GB Black series SATA2 (Windows 7 64-bit: FSX is running off Win7; Windows XP Professional 32-bit) CASE: Antec Sonata III 500W OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit for FSX; Windows XP Pro 32-bit for other things.
May 1, 200521 yr Free downloads Usa Mesh at 38.2 m from;http://www.fsrapid.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=s...esg_id=12&page=nicely done terrain ! a must have !
May 4, 200521 yr I am a FSgenesis Galaxy member and love it. Back in the days of FS2000 and FS2002 before the shuttle data was available, all we could do for 38m mesh was to merge together 7.5 minute DEMS. Only two people in the Flight Sim community could do it seamlessly, Orlando Sotomayer and myself. Most of this mesh is still available in the AVSIM library and works fine in FS2004 but the new data sources are better and produce better mesh.In my opinion you will find none better than FSGenesis. Justin's standards for quality are exceptionally high and the galaxy membership is a bargain. You get worldwide mesh which is updated and corrected if problems are found. As new versions of FS are released the sceneries are upgraded versus having to buy a new product all over again. For me it is a no brainer.Bob ShubinskiReno, NV

FSGenesis does have landclass.>> FSGENESIS uses the default FS2004 texturesOnly, if you have not added any free addon textures...There are a LOT Of free addon textures, and have been for years.Originally, Justin did produce many textures back in the 80's, when he was also producing scenery. But, why keep reinventing the wheel, when it has been done so well, and is available FREE...I have -no- original or default FS2994 textures on my system.Bob
