RSR: "A year from now [...] the first previews of our upcoming 7_7 project"
I see alot of strange things here regarding the 787 and it being so similar to the 75 and 74. The 787 has its main commonality with the 777. If you compare the overhead its very easy to see (and yes the 777 OH is developed from the 75/76 i know, but the 787 is a renewal of the 777 again) If its true what I read in here, that PMDG is going to be a training provider for Boeing, then a 787 makes all that much sense. They provide a "level-d" desktop trainer software and voilà, Boeing has a great training product to offer their customers. And also, the 787 will not be remotely close to a "ground up"-project like a 717 or 757/767-project will be. They already made a HUD work in FSX as it does in real life. They have made a 777 system from ground up. They have intimate knowledge of the two aircrafts that are most similar to the 787, namely the 737NG and 777. A 727 would really not make sense, nor would a 707, unless they made them as a vintage a-là DC-6 project. That would have been great though!

Emergency Landing Caught On Tape
So you use a dipstick when the tank is visually inspected and found to be full? In light weight rotorcraft its absolutely not necessary when filling up, because the tanks are smaller and more compact (easier to see). In a C172 etc its not that easy, but you can ommit the dipstick if you can see that its topped off. So yes, use a dipstick if you are UNSHURE, because if youre in doubt, then your not in doubt, do the whole procedure..

Emergency Landing Caught On Tape
Its the first lesson I learned on fuel planning and flying in GA. Fuel gauges in small aircrafts are to be used as an indicator of whats going on, but never to be fully relied on, ever. The way to properly get a number out before going off, is to check the aircraft log for how much was put on before last flight, and how long that flight lasted. Then you calculate what you require for the trip planned and fill it up if necessary. Always visually inspect and do a dipstick check if you are unsure, as well as cross checking with the gauges. Either way, to just get into the cockpit and full rely on the fuel gauges of small GA machines alone (especially older ones) is a big no no! There is a reason why fuel exhaustion is (believe it or not) a major part of accident statistic in GA. People jump right in, start up, take a glance at their gauges and off they go. (and some pilots dont even cast a glimpse on them).

Emergency Landing Caught On Tape
Speaking of fuel caps.. Aug 2013 I went over to Florida and started my ppl-h. (finished my ir in january and cpl in april this year..doing europe stuff now.. yikes!). In between doing those licenses I was home in norway flying a privately hired R22 to gain some pic hours. On one occasion I was taking my brother out for a trip. As Ive trained as a flight mech in the RNoAF, I am extremely thorough on my preflight checks, always following the book as a minimum, and going the extra to double check. Well, after that flight, as the rotor came to a stop on the tarmac, I climbed out and looked upon my ship.. And my face turned white.. The auxiliry fuel tank cap was missing.. I stood there in disbelief thinking "how in the world did this happen?!?!" I knew that we took off 2-3 parking spots away from where i landed, and ran over to see, and what do you know, there it was, laying on the ground. I knew it had been on before start up, but realized then, it must not have been tightly enough turned. As rotors on a helicopter create alot of vibration in the mid-rpm ranges, its most likely been shaken off during engine warm-up. I always check that the caps are tight. Maybe it felt tight, but didnt, Im not shure. Ever since, I now always check it two times on each side instead of just one.. If any of you read flight international-magazine, you`ll now about a column called "I learned flying from that.." What I love about that, is that even the most seasoned captains tell about stupid mistakes they have done, many even after 10000+ hours of flying. To err is human.. (but to not actually check how much fuel you have, is an unforgivable sin! So im not protecting the instructor if he was reckless!)

Yes, but im doing ATPL-H

18JUL14 - PMDG 777-200LR/F SP1 and PMDG 777-300ER Released
Goodness.. Im trying to study for a real world ATPL, and this is really not very helpful for the serious student (but the child inside is screaming of joy! A 773ER!!!!) Soon your products are gonna be so real, I might just quit real world flying all together.. At least I wouldnt have to worry about being forloughed..

Sudden loss of directional control
No, not this. I know what youre talking about, but this was something quite different. I veered off the runway regardless of rudder input etc. No engine malfunction, all fine. Very puzzling. Ive had countless take-offs in this machine, and the effect you mention, I can handle. This, however, is just not possible to overcome. Thanks for the input, however. I appreciate it! Yes, I know that very well. As mentioned, Ive flown the majestic machines for years, Im no stranger to how you set up the dash 8 for takeoff. However, the take-off alarm comes on about 60-80 knots into the take-off roll, as I try to counteract the veering with hard, right rudder. This one I will try! Alright you guys, thanks for the inputs! I appreciate that you do an effort and try to help B) Im gonna try the ini-file input and experiment with nose-wheel steering. I think somethings gone wrong there..

XPX: SAS A320 from ENTC to ENVA
No no, thank YOU! Thanks for sharing and giving me some insight! Just gotta love those sloped runways too. I wasnt aware that Xpx was this beautiful. I think im gonna try it out!

XPX: SAS A320 from ENTC to ENVA
Stunning! WOW! Beautiful! This is X-plane with or without add-on scenery? Im guessing without, because the runway is not in the correct colour. (Its painted yellow in Norway) And how is the aircraft, system wise? Im considering jumping ship. Im getting tired of tweaking FSX so much!

Sudden loss of directional control
So, im no stranger to any of the majestic birds. Ive flown them for years. Today, however, I ran into a problem that I just cannot figure out the why´s of, and something ive never experienced. I flew one leg, landed and got ready for another flight. As I lined up for the runway, I was heavy, it was short. I had selected flaps 10, bleeds off, (two settings I dont use that often, as I fly seldom fly into airports with short rwys) MTOP was selected and I applied to-pwr while holding my brakes, let go as pwr was set and started the roll. As i approached 60-80 kts aircraft started veering off hard to the left. No input was helping. I aborted take off, and made another 2 attempts. I even turned off nose wheel steering, but it just kept veering off. As I made hard right rudder to counteract it, the take off alarm sounded (which I assume is related to too large control inputs during takeoff roll) The set up for nose wheel steering and rudder, has been like this on just about all my flights. So Im quite puzzled as to the reason why I had such problems keeping it centered on the rwy (a problem ive never had before). Any inputs and help is greatly appreciated!

Why I hate FSX more and more
Thank you so much! Its so true! I didnt touch anything the last months and everything ran smooth until I decided to update my Airbus X to version 1.16.. Currently experimenting with the bufferpools now, and seems like I hit somewhat of a sweet spot. Things are currently stable. Great feedback. And finally, let me point out to all y`all: I have had great experiences with FSX and I truly love flightsimming, even more so after PMDG brought their unbelievable NGX to the market. But right now im finishing up EASA ATPL-H to join real world pro flying, and so Ive kept doing this more for the practice of procedures and instrument approaches, and my hate has increased for FSX due to all the problems ive encountered (versus flying for real), but I still love that sim! All the joy microsoft has brought me since age 7 is endless! I have to admit, I was once sitting in the jumpseat of a Widerøe Dash-8 on startup, just waiting for it to CTD, when it quickly dawned upon me that this is the real thing, so no need to worry about that.. (just amazing how those pesky CTDs can effect your flying experiences..)

Why I hate FSX more and more
One reason for why im not ditching FSX: PMDG EULA. Im NEVER gonna break their rules. Anyways, the problem has not re-occurred after rt-input in cfg, so thanks to users in here who had sensible comments! The rest of you need to take topic names with a pinch of salt and not assume that everyone is making grandios drama out of it... Humor is no easy to relay on forums..

Why I hate FSX more and more
Hey! KingGhidorah, thank you. This was a very nice input. The thing about hardware getting worn is something that does not strike (me to the floor) my mind too often, but its true! Now, I have been fooling around alot with many settings (both in CFG and FSX). I reset the CFG several times as well when CTDs got out of hand, and that did indeed work. However, the one about Bufferpools is a setting I just got in there from Venetubo. Without asking for an indept explanation, is there a simple way to explain what increasing or decreasing the bufferpools will do for good?? Thank you for the feedback!

Why I hate FSX more and more
Yes, but I never did intend to trash it to the floor. This is the everlasting problem with internet, one cannot see the face of the one we communicate with, which is really important for communication.. Oh well.. No worries! Its just that im not interested in a DEBATE ABOUT ME! I wanted ADVICE on a specific problem.. (and not: uninstall and leave us alone-advice) And yes, it is a love-hate relationship, where hate has taken a stronger hold for now.. There is only so many CTDs any grown man can take on final approach

Why I hate FSX more and more
See, this is the kind of feedback that to me is, shall we say, strange. Coming in here to have some advice, and you tell me this. Why the unfriendliness? What is the matter with some of you? So, we shall not ask for advice on problems, and have some fun of all the trouble many of us encounter with FSX? This is the reason why I have less than 400 posts in almost 10 year membership.... Now that I can agree with. Thanks to those who came in here to actually help or had sensible comments.

Why I hate FSX more and more
Taken care of. Thank you! With all the trouble ive had with FSX I have a hard time believing this, because: This is what I see ppl write about it alot.. Good for you. Ive spent more time figuring out CTDs and weird problems like never before. FS9 was heaven in comparison. I just cant quit due to good add-ons (like 737NGX) The last 6-8 months have been "stable", because I had to add a scenery library entry in the CFG warning me everytime I had a scenery file missing while flying, so it wouldnt CTD on me.. Yes, I really hate it more and more, because for me, its been more work than fun.

Will I be able to run FSX reasonably?
Alright! Im about to jump ship myself.. SO FED UP with FSX!! Take it from me dreighver. Ive spent 3 years on FSX and Im getting frustrated by the minute now.. Trouble shows up like lightning from a blue sky.. It took me endless hours to tweak it.. Ive had so many CTDs I lost count the first week I had it running.. I think you should consider X-plane or P3D before FSX!

Why I hate FSX more and more
Hmmm... new update.. My CFG settings: [bufferPools] Poolsize=50000000 UsePools=1 [GRAPHICS] AC_SELF_SHADOW=1 AIRCRAFT_REFLECTIONS=1 AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=0 ALLOW_SHADER_30=1 COCKPIT_HIGH_LOD=1 D3D10=0 EFFECTS_QUALITY=1 GROUND_SHADOWS=0 HIGHMEMFIX=1 IMAGE_QUALITY=0 LANDING_LIGHTS=1 NUM_LIGHTS=8 See_Self=1 TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096 TEXTURE_QUALITY=3 Text_Scroll=1 SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED_10=1693500672 SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED=1693500672 ForceFullScreenVSync=1 So, I didnt have bufferpools set to 0... You fly P3D?

Why I hate FSX more and more
 ... Thank you! Yup! Its ok in the beginning, like when I switched to FSX 3 years ago.. But now: Flown in LA-airspace the past months alot (Dreamteam LAX and so on) The only thing I did, which might be the troublemaker: I updated my Airbus X to version 1.16.. Ive flown the 737NGX for the past 6 months without a sneeze and I just let the Airbus sit there.. Then, couple of days ago, I figured some flights with JetBlue on the wonderful Airbus X would be nice, so I updated it to newest version. I flew LGB-SAN-LGB, so the program had been running for a bit, BUT: Ive flown DFW-PHX-DFW and so on without any issues on the 737NGX, so I do suspect the issue might be the Airbus using more VAS.. I`ll try this one first! Thanks for the help!
