Lago sells em and flight1 sells some mesh stuff.. and most of them look promisingand very well done.. so heres my problem.. i cant make up my mind.. because i have no clue how they are.. how the various packs affect your FPS etc..im thinking about all kind a mesh scenery, not just the entire worldbut also parts where i fly alot.. especially usa and europe.. But which company is the best..? justflight? lago? Megascenery?flight1? thanks for helping out.by the way, my 3.86 computer should be able to handle it or..?:-shyno seriously:AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 2 GhZtwo 512MB RAMPower Color Radeon 9550 256MB graphic cardYngve

I recommend FSGenesis for mesh - you can buy it in sections for where you fly - and it is quite cheap, plus you get discounts if you buy more than one at once. You can actually get some FSGenesis mesh for free on Avsim - just search for it in the file library! www.fsgenesis.net

I agree with recommending FSGenesis. Justin has been producing quality mesh for many years. He personally supports his products, offers timely updates and fixes problems when discovered. Unless you live in central Illinois (flat), the mesh will suddenly bring your scenery "alive". Good luck!Bob..

I'll jump on the FS Genesis bandwagon too. Great product and superb support. You can buy a bit at a time or the whole enchilada for a very reasonable price, including all updates and future products that he does. Highly recommended.billg

Sweet! Ive never heard of FS Genesis before.. at least i dont think so. Thanx you guys:-wave , this is gonna be a serious treat for my FSACOF World :-hah Yngve

Double post...

Hi guys,I was actually also just looking to re-mesh my FS world. I have been using Terramesh for Europe and bits and pieced elsewhere around the world. However one thing I am a little confused about is what is the difference between mesh and landclass? I see some sceneries come with landclass enclosed, can you then also add mesh for the same area? Also how does FS Genesis mesh compare to Terramesh for Europe? One last question re Europe I am using the VFR terrain mesh scenery for the UK to go with the photo VFR scenery, can you for instance take out the UK from FS genesis if you want to use the VFR mesh scenery? Thanks CheersTim http://members.chello.nl/t.westnutt/realair1.gif

If you are interested into general world mesh, not only parts of the world, for instance, if you are flying big routes, Europe, US, Australia etc, you might want to check FS Global 2005 here:http://fsglobal2005.com/I read some good stuff about it...

>>However one thing I am a little confused about is what is the>difference between mesh and landclass? >>I see some sceneries come with landclass enclosed, can you>then also add mesh for the same area?>"Mesh" is the term used by FSers for gridded height field data. Basically, an XY array of values which represent the height of the ground above Mean Sea Level sampled at regular intervals over the ground. The sim uses these values and info about their spacing to construct a series of ajoining triangles which represent a model of the earth surface. The spacing of the height values determines the size of the resulting triangles (smaller triangles give a better representation of the surface, but put more load on the graphics card). The sim only allows for fixed spacing, but it is possible to increase the spacing in each dimension by a factor of 2 to create higher fidelity. The term LOD is used to describe the number of times the resolution has been doubled. An equivalent term is to use the approximate spacing in meters. The terrain slders and fs9.cfg provide a means to limit the amount of highest resolution mesh used, thereby reducing the number triangles that must be drawn. So even if you install higher resolution mesh (say LOD 10), the sim could still use lower resolution mesh in some parts of the visual scene (mainly, farther away from your eyepoint). All this is a function of geometry, and mathematical manipulation of geometric shapes. Note that it is possible to locally override the mesh by using a "flatten" which has the effect of creating mesh with a single height within the effected area.As an additional step, the final geometry must be colored. Texture maps (files of ground and water texture) are applied to the geometry to create the final terrain scene. This process is essentially independent of the mesh. "Landclass" (and the equivalent "waterclass") is a way of assigning specific texture maps in an efficient way (minimizing the number of textures that must be drawn to reduce the amount of memory holding textures. Landclass is a file (or files) which provides a gridded (again X Y) array of integers 0-255, which are used to select the appropriate texture file. Unlike mesh files, only a single resolution of landclass (approximately 1.2 km on a side) is allowed. However, the resolution of the texture file can vary in a process called mip-mapping. A full resolution texture is 512x512, but lower resolution textures (128x128, etc) are included within the file. Again under influence of terrain sliders, the sim will select the highest, or one of the lower resolution mip maps to overlay the geometry. So, all a new landclass file can do is to change the actual texture file used, not the quality or resolution of the result. For example, specifying a texture representing urban area, or one representing farm fields. Note that landclass can be overridden within an area by placing aerial photo textures. The sim uses a fairly complicated scheme to select a specific texture, making things much more realistic than suggested by having only 256 different landclass values to chose from. An additional feature of the textures, is that it is possible to assign objects to them which are then drawn on top of the ground in a process called "autogen". Like mesh and landclass textures, the sliders impact the amount of autogen objects that are created.scott s..

Mesh is the support for the landclass... Mesh give altitudes of mountains. FSgenesis is so accurate, that one user who lives in the mountains posted side by side, a photo he took, and a screenshot from FsGenesis Mesh... With the Landclass you can also get at FSgenesis. Landclass greatly improves what the FS landscape looks like. If you install it, and find any discrepencies in your town, Justin will correct them. Ive been buying Justin's scenery since 1989, and after trying several others, and returning them, stick to what has been proven in the long term.Personally, I bought his lifetime membership, it has proven to be a BARGAIN. The first year, got more for the FS, than it would have cost buying it seperately. Each time the FS has been updated, whatever changes were necessary, I received at no additional charge. Each NEW package he has brought out, I've received at no additional charge. When I bought it, had NO idea that he was going to cover the world with Mesh. Though it would be just the US, but now I can fly in South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Austrailia, or wherever, with accurate terrain... Its all been a big BONUS, since my first year! You can also get the ROADS, and Streams there... This dramatically upgrades your roads. First time In installed it Made a VFR flight, following all roads which are familiar from driving on them... From Fullerton, CA KFUL, to Yosemite National Park. Followed them through the park, over Tioga Pass to RT 395, which I then followed into Reno...You could do the same thing with any road atlas, anywhere in the country, and not get lost. It even has the roads in the Mobile Home Park where I live, accurately. With this, downloaded the Motorcycle thats on http://flightsim.com and drove it from Fullerton, up the same route I always used to take to Big Bear City... Then around the lake, and down to Apple Valley Airport. Then, picked up a Cessna there, and flew home.... :-)

I saw a DVD-set in the store the other day by FS Global. Its scenery for the entire world ...12GB of it.http://www.geizhals.net/img/pix/118961.jpgAnyone have this pack...any good? :)

Kingair (Whoever you are):-)Thanks for the info. I was also looking at the lifetime membership. It does sound like a bargain.CheersTimhttp://members.chello.nl/t.westnutt/realair1.gif

Yep, it is a bargain... For years now, Ive been getting everything FSGenesis produces, at no additional charge. The benefits just keep on growing... It's automatic, each time something is added, and you look at it, the price says... "$0.00" These days, that sure looks good, when you are retired. :-)http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZsouthwestQ5fartistJust, click To See the Painting I've done lately...
