May 6, 200521 yr One thing I did notice about AI at 100% is that if your at a major airport like KATL Atlanta for example and start your flight at a peak time like 5pm local if you dont get out right from the start you it will take forever to get off. Even more so at fields that dont have parrallels using one for take offs and the other for landings. However, If you start the sim in the early morning like 4 or 5 am local then the traffic never really backs up for departure. just a little trick to have 100% AI witout all the ground traffic.Kilstorm
May 7, 200521 yr Look at www.projectai.com. They have an auto-installer for afcads and flight plans/ ai paints. If you just have a few airports to polish up I'd look here.I concentrate on commuter/feeder operations so just a few airports are important to me.If you decide to install any airport scenery most likely an afcad will be furnished with it or available for it with parking codes and a matched overlay of ground routing and parking. At this point, since only one afcad should be installed besides the default, you would move the UT afcad safely out of the way.
May 7, 200521 yr UT is definately worth getting, how much time and work you spend on editing your AI From there is up to you. Out of the "box" it comes with over 400,000 flightplans from over 800 airlines, and a general aviation flightplan set with proper callsigns for each country. It includes repaints for almost all the major carriers, though I had to install Westjet manually. If you like the idea of "tweaking" your AI - Ultimate Traffic makes it quite easy as it has many tools for that. If you want to replace the Flight1 / Project AI models, IE you find another 747 AI plane you like better - there is a tool in Ultimate Traffic that lets you do that. For airlines with special liveries you can have it randomly use the different ones in the flightplans, or limit it to a specified amount. It's very flexible. It's far easier than just using Ttools and notepad, and it blows away any other traffic addon out there. LOL I mentioned earlier in this thread that I only fly on Vatsim so I don't use AI, but after reading this I went and installed Ultimate Traffic, and I'm enjoying the crowded skies of AI, and still flying on Vatsim at times too, a nice mix this way.
May 7, 200521 yr I also own UT and I have to admit I thoroughly enjoyed the product. I never kept the traffic to 100% because it seems like when I did I would end up with planes facing each other on taxiways. They would also take FOREVER to get off the runways and the queue for takeoffs would be insane. I know there were some tweaks that could resolve those minor issues but I did't feel like fooling around with it so I just moved my sliders back just a bit. Now that Squawkbox 3 is out however, I don't think I will fly offline again unless I am testing a new plane or something. Nothing beats knowing that the British Airways 777 parked next to you at the gate has a real person at the controls making decisions, not some brain dead AI that taxi's head on to other aircraft.Don't get me wrong UT is a great addon but VATSIM is the real deal
May 7, 200521 yr I agree - Vatsim is great, though since I fly a lot of smaller planes to smaller airports, you don't see traffic all the time so I like to mix Vatsim with offline now.
May 10, 200521 yr So, it sounds like UT does a great job with the basic FDEs, and flight plans and that with some afcad tweaking and replacement of the stock AI 3D models to something like AIAardvark, that I could have the best of all worlds? How many planes are in UT? I'd considered replaceing each one of them one at a time with better framerate friendly models.
