April 30, 200521 yr A while a go i bought the A380 from a unmentioned company. The product was terrible and I learned my lesson. Scince then I have had a sharp learning curve on amazing planes from PMDG and PSS. For those of you who have Wilco products do you think the upcoming A380 will be worth purchasing? Thanks for your opinions.Mike Mike Keigley
April 30, 200521 yr Well must be hard to model it correctly however Wilco has other well done add ons :)
April 30, 200521 yr Personally if I were into A380s at all I'd wait for the aircraft to have been in service for a while so there's real data for addon makers to base their models on before even contemplating a purchase. As to Wilco, they have a mottled record. They brought the 767PIC (or rather published it, they didn't make it) but also the A320PIC and their World Airports (or whatever they called it) which weren't so well received. In general their products are rather heavy on the hardware :)
April 30, 200521 yr Author Well as far as your first A380 purchase (we all know from whom), a wise man once said that you can try to teach a pig to sing but at the end of the day all you'll end up frustrating yourself and p*ssing off the pig.The Wilco Pub offering is not being billed as a PIC caliber simulation and they make that distinction clear between their "fleet" releases and their "PIC" releases. With that said I would not expect every single system to be modeled because I suspect that at least a handful of those systems are not fully understood. In the same token, all this fluff about inaccurate flight models seems a bit silly. With the exception of the A320 PIC which attempted to model the A320 xLAW logic and FBW characteristics no one else has really come close. That INCLUDES PSS since not one of their Airbus aircraft really flies like an Airbus (they all fly like boeings with no FBW characteristics.) So I wonder why all the big fuss with Wilco when the vast majority of Airbus pilots here are using the PSS panel with IFDG flight model none of which exhibits true airbus performance. Everyone seems to be happy with what they have (unrealistic as it is) so why make a big stink about the A380?With all that said, if you are happy with around 80% of the systems modeled and a reasonable semblence of the unique Airbus FBW xLAW characteristics then I'd say you'll be happy. On the other hand, if you are the type that will be heartbroken if the right left overhead panel is rendered with three toggle bolts when there should only be two and after analysing the cockpit color under a spectrometer it ended up two microshades above the real thing then I would say to pass!!! I have no doubt that it will NOT be 100% accurate but compared to your other A380 purchase (aka, the singing pig) it will seem like you just bought a Level-D full motion sim from Wilco! As for me, I will definitely get it because it will be the Best A380 simulation available for quite some time. But I know that I will fly it a few times, so that I can say I did it and put it in the hanger so that I can get back to serious work on the LDS 767 Best regards,Mike T.
April 30, 200521 yr When I first bought the A380 from the unmentioned company it was my 1st purchase of an add-on. I always thought why pay when you can have the same plane for free? I was right away disappointed. I was na Mike Keigley
May 1, 200521 yr Just remember that there are pigs at every rodeo. Some payware stinks. Some freeware is excellent. Not to demean those I don't mention here in this short blurb, but, just for starters, my short list of excellent freeware includes a whole fleet of Commanders, the Howard 500, Veneaviones' Turboprop Commander, and the Simmers Sky MD-11. They have a place in my fleet beside my Eaglesoft, F1, DF, Aerosoft, PSS, and PMDG birds.I agree that there is GENERALLY a difference, though. I have taken to mostly looking at payware, but I try a lot of freeware and keep some. As for the payware, you have to shop and let the product mature before you buy it sometimes. And - beware of the lemons.Regards - Steve
