What freeware ground textures are available?

Featured Replies

I just did a reinstall and my ground textures look kind of odd. I assume I had addon textures but can't remember installing them, let alone which ones they were. I've done a search but it's hard to narrow it down. Any thoughts? Thx!billg

Michael, that rings a bell, hehe. But I've since installed the Flight Environment 2004 and am wondering if any of the Bluesphere files will overwrite the FE2004 ones. Hmmmm, this is about a 2 day job rebuilding the software on a computer, argh.

At fsgenesis.net, you can drill thru Downloads --> Freeware --> Landclass, and pick up the US Landclass Beta 6. The claim is that "Full coast-to-coast coverage of the mainland United States derived from the USGS NLCD", although as a naive landclass user I'm mystified how a 2.02MB file can have a profound effect on the ground textures.

>States derived from the USGS NLCD", although as a naive>landclass user I'm mystified how a 2.02MB file can have a>profound effect on the ground textures.Landclass isn't the actual texture, it's a file that describes what each section of land is and subsequently chooses which ground texture will be used.

before you try lennart's, be advised they re hemisphere specific...so if you go back and forth you will have to use his file manipulator. no big deal, but just a heads up...and fwiw, just a personal opinion. I liked lennart's textures for fs2002, but I think we have better options for fs2004...Sherm

"...I think we have better options for fs2004..."And they would be????I am using Lennart's textures too and although the FScene textures are really good too (I have them for Oz/NZ), you can't beat the freeware price!I understood that Lennart is not going to make any more textures for FS9 and that is a great loss.Cheers,N.
