I just got a CTD, about 15 minutes into a flight on P3D 2.4.

You had a BEX Event – For more information - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffer_overflow. Usually accompanied by an NTDLL.dll or StackHash error. Means a setting is too high most of the time. P3D cannot keep up. If you installed a tweak in your P3D.cfg, that could be the cause too.

Looking at your report, everything appears to be up-to-date. Microsoft Visual 2010 needed to run P3D loaded correctly. So did Microsoft Visual 2005 w/SP1 which is required to run FSX/Acceleration and some FSX addons. The problem with moving stuff made for FSX over to P3D is the fact it may not install the Microsoft Visual used by the developer for the product. Microsoft Visual 2008 w/SP1 was used for most FSX addons but some developers, like PMDG, have upgraded to the 2010 version. Still, if a product needs it and does not see it, then there could be problems. Normally this is not an issue if you also have FSX installed as the required Microsoft Visuals for FSX addons will be there. The problem occurs if you just have P3D installed and you 'migrated' FSX addons to P3D and did not use an installer for P3D. Microsoft Visual 2008 w/SP1 did not load and that may be okay if you also have FSX installed.

The same goes with Microsoft.net (dotnet). FSX uses 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0. Dotnets are not backward compatible so, if you have a FSX addon ported over to P3D and you did not use an installer that was made for P3D. Only dotnet 4.0 loaded and that may be okay if you have no addons that need earlier versions. Your listed addons indicate to me that the developers made an installer for P3D installation.

You will need to investigate. The AVSIM CTD Guide provides guidance for investigating. For instance, moving the P3D.cfg, the dll.xml, and exe.xml files to a temporary directory and see if the problem occurs again. Unfortunately you won't be able to use some of the addons if they cannot be loaded via the dll.xml. You can also disable just certain addons in the dll.xml as shown in the AVSIM CTD Guide. The most important thing to try would be to move the p3d.cfg to a temp directory, restart P3D, run the same flight and see if this fixes the problem. If so, there was a high setting or you placed a tweak in the file.

This type of error can also sometimes fix itself in subsequent flights. For instance, just restarting your computer and trying the flight again may fix the buffer issues. But, if it occurs again, then there is something wrong with a cfg, or xml file.

Hope this helps.

Many thanks Jim for the reply,

FSX is also loaded on my PC - maybe that should alleviate some errors. The only addon that's "non" p3dv2 approved is mytraffic 5.4C. Maybe that is the culprit.

NO .cfg tweaks.

Able to keep a stable 30fps.

I've since completed two successful flights (2 hours each) without changing any settings.

I'll keep an eye out if I get the error again.

Thanks!

Matt

That's good to hear.  Means, if you install a program from FSX to P3D it should definitely work so strike my comments about the MS Visuals and dotnets.  MyTrafficX is not known to make an unknown faulting module but it is known for making BEX/ntdll.dll or BEX/StackHash errors.  You can easily test it by disabling it in your Scenery Library.

The fact you got two successful flights done is good news.  It may have been just a "happening" based on other things running and accidentally hit a conflict.
