May 19, 200521 yr Anyone have some ideas for this? I recently reinstalled Windows XP Pro and FS9. After using Jim's optimization guide, FS is nice and smooth in the air. But on the ground, it's like watching a very slow slide show. No matter what plane (stock or addon) I use, it's not smooth when taxiing, on the runway, etc.. it's very very jerky.I have a Athlon XP 2400+ overclocked to 2.1ghz and the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro vc using the 5.1 cat drivers.Just wondering why it would do this or what can I change?thanksAlanKCOS TRACON (the real thing)
May 20, 200521 yr A couple of instances have arised with FFB controllers slowing ground performance. Outside of that, I can't recall some of the other causes--there's been a few threads on the subject over the past year. If anything, this reply will bump the thread for you and others will see it and respond.-JohnEdit: I should add, although I run MSFS on a slow system, that with AI maxed at busy airports, if I'm not using replacement AI, taxiing around those will cause stuttery ground performance. You can rule this out by temporarily disabling AI.
May 20, 200521 yr John,I do have MS FFB version 1. I didn't think of that. I'll disable it and see.. Thanks for the tip.Alan
May 20, 200521 yr John,I disabled the FFB on the joystick and voila! The sim came to life like I've never seen it before! Kinda sucks that MS can't make their own products work with each other. I'm running scenery at max, FS Water, Active Sky, Ultimate Traffic @ max settings and it's very nice. Thanks for the tip!AlanKCOS TRACON
May 20, 200521 yr You may wish to search the forums--I thought there may be a workaround such as disabling ground bumps if I remember correctly. You'd lose some of FFB's functionality, but not in the air where it counts... :)-John
May 20, 200521 yr I've been playing with the diff settings. As long as I have the FFB turned off, it's sweet! I've never had it running this good. I did turn on the FFB w/out the Ground Bumps and it was still choppy. I can live w/out the stick shakers, etc.. for now. I still have PC133 memory in this thing so an u/g may help...Thanks again!Alan KCOS TRACON
May 20, 200521 yr Author HelloHave a look at FS Force by Dirks software this module replaces FS9's FF routines with much more realistic forces. You can have custom forces for each aircraft and the trim system is much more realistic. The FS9 trim system was written to work with sprung joysticks where the stick is only in trim in the center position, Fs force's trim system is written for FF joysticks where spring tension is not used therefore the aircraft can be in trim when the stick is not centered you can actually feel the weight of the control sufaces on the stick, It also implements control frictionIf you use a FF stick this software is the way to go, I think there is a demo available at dirks software.
