help with strange dual monitor behaviour

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Ive eventually hooked up my other monitor so im running one at its native resolution of 1920x1200 and the secondary at 1280x1024 (also its native resolution)

Now i wanted to run the secondary with vatsim and the 1st with fsx in full screen mode.

I have a gtx780.

Now i tried it in full screen mode and get the second screen black. In windowed mode i get the second screen with my choice of window on however it stutters every few seconds in comparison than before, i dont get any screen tearing.

If i go to full screen mode as before, the screen now tears.

I have no vysnc entries in my cfg and nvidia inspector is set at 1/2 refresh rate.

Ultimately i was going to use full screen mode as before with no tearing and just alt enter it when i want to look at anything on the second screen, however i cant seem to replicate my peformance of before. My cfg has only one monitor entry.

Could the addition of the second monitor cause a drop in performance and the tearing and/or should i use a vsync entry in the cfg?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Ollie

I have a GTX780 and use two monitors with no problems. If your Windows Mode still has its borders then that is possibly causing some problems, There is a freeware program called AutoHotKeys (ahk) that will give you a "pseudo" full screen. It is ultra simple and even has the script to do it.

The only difference between your setup and mine is that I use the same resolution on both monitors.

You are using nVidia control panel to set resolutions for each, yes?

good luck

Thanks for the response

Yeah using nvidia for the resolutions.

Do you use both for fsx or one with info on?

What vsync do you use in inspector and do you use any vsync tweaks?

So i unplug the second monitor and everything is fine and peformance has increased again

Should i look into getting another monitor that is the same size and resolution?

Thanks

Ollie

I use a single monitor. a 4-year old Vizio 32"  flat screenTV, for FSX and a 24" ASUS for Active Sky Next, LINDA, etc.

All settings are with NVidia Inspector using NickN's profile. You can get it at the Flight 1 Hardware& Software forum.

I really don't know whether different resolutions causes your problem. You might consider testing a "cheap" graphics card for your second monitor (particularly if it is a fairly new monitor).

Very wierd as im using exactly the same with the second monitor being a small lcd tv and get terrible tearing with the second monitor attached.

Do you use a dvi converter on the tv ?
